Scenario 3: Answer Questions 11-14(Show your work)

A patient has been admitted to the hospital with fever and chills, productive
cough with yellow green sputum, shortness of breath, malaise and anorexia. The
physician writes the following orders:
A- Normal saline 1000 mL IV at 125/ hr.
B- Ceftriaxone 1500 mg IV PB q. 8h in 100 mL normal saline over 30 min
C- Promethazine 12.5 mg IV push q 4h

The nurse has 2g of Ceftriaxone. For I.V. Administration:


Reconstitute with 19.2 mL of an I.V. diluent specified in the
accompanying package insert. Each 1 mL of solution contains
approximately 100 mg equivalent of ceftriaxone.
- The nurse has 25mg/1ml of Promethazine.

11- Calculate the dose of ceftriaxone:

12- Calculate the IV PB flow rate for each dose of ceftriaxone:


13- Calculate the dose of promethazine

14- The nurse starts the primary IV at 1:15 PM on IV infusion pump. What is
the appropriate time to change the IV fluid?
