Opening Song (Swanee)(Roughly 10 seconds)
Swara: Bienvenue à la radio fabuleuse de Québec!
Isabella: Welcome to Quebec’s Fabulous Radio! In case you didn’t realize, it’s freezing
outside, with quite the snowfall. So make sure to keep you and your kiddos warm!
Swara: And safe, the influenza is still running rampant!
Isabella: Remember, wearing your face masks and maintaining your distance is the best
cure apart from the vaccine.
Fatima: But enough of that. Join us today as we discuss amazing but bizarre, fads,
brilliant new inventions, and much more!
Isabella: Before we begin, remember to vote for the upcoming election between William
Lyon Mackenzie King, Arthur Meighen, and Thomas Crerar.
Swara: Oh, do tell us how that is coming along?
Isabella: Very nicely. While it is a tough choice, Mackenzie King appears to be in the
lead by a stunning amount. Up till now, he is a very promising candidate. But we’ll have
to see, so until then, get your votes in!
Fatima: As lovely as that is, how powering is it that so many women are running for
parliament?
Swara: It’s wonderful! And who knows, maybe they will even get the job!
Fatima: That would be a whoopee! Mind you, certain women are quite fabulous in
politics.
Isabella: You must be talking about Ms. McClung then.
Swara: Oh, she’s quite the lady for the job.
Swara: Who knows, maybe she’ll even open the door for a female Prime Minister!
Isabella: Now wouldn’t that be lovely? A woman as a prime minister. It wouldn’t be far
off. She is really making an impact on women.
Swara: However, could you imagine the rifts that a female Prime Minister would cause?
As lovely as it would be, would the people even allow it?
Isabella: That is true, yes. But it is a wonderful thought.
Swara: Indeed it is.
Fatima: While we are on the topic of politics, how lovely is it that they have finally lifted
that all wet prohibition law?
Isabella: It’s the bee's knees!
Swara: That law really did bring the worst out in society. You should’ve seen the
protests!
Isabella: I did, alright. And might I say, they were some of the worst, maybe even as bad
as that strike that happened in…..?
Fatima: Winnipeg? Back in 1919?
Isabella: Oh yes that one. The poor children. No wonder Nellie McClung is in
Parliament. After all, she’s paving the way for women. Women who have voices and
know how to use them. Just like us. The prohibition is just proof of that.
Fatima: On to more exciting topics, don’t you all know that Mary Pickford?
Swara: She’s the big cheese! Of course, we do! I loved her new picture, The Lovelight.
C’est fantastique!
Fatima: Yes, that was a brilliant one. Admirable
Isabella: Ah yes, yet another amazing woman. I loved The Lovelight. For those who
don’t know, the hip Mary Pickford plays the role of a woman involved in a forbidden
nationalistic love story. Oh how I loved how. -
Fatima: But don’t let us tell the whole story, make sure to see it yourselves!
Swara: On the topic of Mary Pickford, what do you ladies think of her changing style?
Fatima: Oh my, she’s making quite the statement there! But I have to say it looks quite
remarkable on her.
Isabella: That style is starting all the rage. You could probably see all the young girls
slowly becoming all dolled up with their heaps of jewelry and strange styles. Even
following the style of Mary Thurman and Clara Bow and now Mary Pickford, America’s
sweetheart.
Fatima: Yes, and now that several of these women are following this style, the future of
fashion is absolutely spiffy nowadays. It really adds a certain … je ne sais quoi.
Swara: Absolutely, yes! Speaking of outrageous fashion, what is on your finger there
dear?
Fatima: Only the most divine of creations! Have you heard of Band-Aid?
Isabella: Is it that sticky thing that covers the wounds?
Fatima: Yes! I got the nastiest cut in the kitchen the other day, and this thing saved my
finger from a terrible bloodbath!
Swara: That's amazing! What a wonderful thing! Tell me where you got it.
Fatima: From this little boy on the street! The cunning little garcon had me intrigued until
I bought it.
Isabella: Oui! The little boy down at the corner on the main street.
Swara: For only 10 cents a box, I’d think that’s a pretty fine deal.
Fatima: You know what? I heard about the new diabetes treatment selling for 1.2¢ per
unit.
Isabella: Insulin! I first heard about it in July and it was created by Fredrick Banting and
Charles Best at the University of Toronto. I thought it was baloney when I heard the
price.
Swara: The affordable price is the bee’s knees.
Fatima: And made by Canadians. They claim people will live longer. Well at least that’s
what the headlines say.
Fatima: Yeah right! Talk about new and changing technology in our world. First the
Band-Aid, Insulin and the Bob!
Isabella: Quite spiffy. I wonder what else is going on in our world
Swara: Well, the 1921 CFL Grey Cup is starting soon!
Isabella: The Canadian Football League is playing? I almost forgot!
Fatima: The CFL Grey Cup? My husband is taking the day off
Swara: Mine too! The Toronto Argonauts and the Edmonton Eskimos, who do you guys
think will win?
Isabella: I follow the Toronto Argonauts and they have a great chance to win. They have
a winning streak of nine seasons and playoff games.
Fatima: The fight for the Grey Cup won’t be easy. That’s for sure
Swara: Exactly. It’s THE Grey Cup. The final game of the Canadian Football League
playoffs between the Toronto Argonauts and the Edmonton Eskimos. Who’s going to
win? The reigning Toronto Argonauts or the underdogs, the Edmonton Eskimos? Stay
tuned to find out!
Isabella: Well then, here we are folks. However if you want to hear about the results,
come back tomorrow morning to Quebec’s Fabulous Radio!
Swara: Au Revoir!
Closing Song (Swanee)(Roughly 10 seconds)
