Warhammer 40,000: Escalation League Rules

Sheet
"Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be
re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim darkness of the far
future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and
slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods."

Each Round will be two weeks in length. During the round you are required to
contact your opponent at the earliest opportunity. Game Reports are Due by closing
time Sunday two weeks after postings have gone up. New assignments will be
posted the following Monday, once all reports have been tabulated. Each round will
escalate as detailed in this document. Keep this in mind.

This will be a living document, any major updates will be highlighted in Magenta
text and subject to change throughout the league. Always make sure to re-read it
when a new round begins.

The entire event shall be matched play, as enumerated

All players are required to come Prepared. This Includes:

● Having 2 complete identical and legible army-lists that specifically detail the
location and cost of all items, and units. This should be clear and legible
(there are several programs and few websites that can work for this, I prefer
the use of Games Workshop Warhammer 40k App, Army Builder or
Battlescribe, there are often errors and typos with such programs however,
be aware and double check your lists.) You are responsible for your list being
legal. This is both for clarity of communication with your opponent and to
prevent ‘ad hoc’ changes to wargear and unit comp. There has been an issue
with this in the past, if your opponent does not have a list contact me
immediately
● You must render a copy of your list in either physical or digital form, wholly
to your opponent (if physical it must be theirs to keep, if digital it must be
sent to them in a legible format) This is a big deal, do NOT forget this ●
Having their whole army with them at arranged game time
● Having every ruling pertaining to your force (Codex/Dataslate, FAQ, WD
etc...) on hand for ease of access for both themselves and their opponent (to
whom they must render said materials, if it is so bidden, for legitimate rule
wording perusal).
● Required to be at minimum familiar with ALL rulings (Codex/Dataslate, FAQ,
WD etc...) for the pieces they will be playing with
● Having Dice and a measuring tape
● Meeting at prearranged time with your opponent
If your opponent does not meet these requirements this should be addressed with
them first. Secondly it should be marked on the comments section of the Game
Report. Lastly, if any such violation of these rules is deemed flagrant or egregious,
you should contact your league organizer or store employee and have them contact
me.

Basic rules in effect for the entire event:

● All measurements will be from base to base of models, not from the model
proper. This will ease rules disputes, streamline play, relieve modeling
concerns, and protect artists/hobbyists hard work.
● All FAQ’s and Balance updates will be in effect the day they are released by
Games Workshop for their relevant books.
● Legends will be allowed, but will be monitored for future change ● Upon
entering the league you are bound to (locked in) to whichever Faction
(Keywords: Imperium, Chaos, Orks, Aeldari, Tau, Necrons, Tyranids) you have
chosen. within these Factions but once chosen you may not stray from them for
the duration of the League. Changing after the start of round 1 is expressly
forbidden and will be treated as intentional misconduct. ● Your Warlord must be
from your declared Faction.
● Players may freely swap between available Detachments within their
faction/subfaction but may not bring restricted units from another subfaction
that those lists allow (Blood Angels Player using Sons of Russ detachment, as
it is technically a space marine detachment it is allowed to be used but no
space wolf units may be brought) This will be kept under extreme review and
could change round from round.
● Whenever a new codex is released during a round it will not be legal for play
until the following round. You may continue to use your old rules for the
duration of the league, However once changed cannot be returned to.
● With the possibility for your faction becoming illegal etc based on a new
book, it can be changed only with express permission from the league
organizer.
● Point totals will be dictated from round to round.
● The Titanic and Primarch units will be prohibited until round 2 (and
only 1 round 2)
● Chaos Knights or Imperial Knights players will be allowed to bring a
Single Titanic unit round 1 and Two in round 2, with no restrictions
beyond that however. However they are further restricted from
bringing their Bigger (dominus/tyrant chassis) knights until round 3.
● To clarify Battle-Ready as referenced in Step 14 (Determine Victor),
Battle-Ready paint jobs shall be completely base coated (the entire
model) Shaded and based. If you are confused or need guidance for
what these means please avail yourself of the images provided or
this link https://bit.ly/3lhmRrX
● The battlefield terrain rules on pages 44-52 are in effect and should
be agreed upon before the game begins.
● Addendums to this may be added, this will be a living document. All
updates to which will be accompanied by a notification of said
update.

If you have any questions, concerns or comments PLEASE contact me.

EVEN IF GAMES ARE UNABLE TO BE PLAYED A REPORT IS STILL DUE. No

report? No points. No points? No prizes, glory, or fame!

You are given two weeks including two weekends to get your games in. That IS
plenty of time. It is YOUR responsibility to contact your opponent and try to work
something out. If they cannot be reached, report to me asap.
Be warned, Cheating of any kind, browbeating of your opponent, Violent behavior,
as well as any attempting to game the system by intentionally delaying your
contact with the intention of ensuring your opponent is not available to play, you
shall be ejected from league with complete forfeiture of all prizes and results as well
as barred entry to further events at the store.

EVEN IF GAMES ARE UNABLE TO BE PLAYED A REPORT IS STILL DUE. No report?

No points. No points? No prizes, glory, or fame! - Why is this on here twice?
Because, you’d be surprised how often people don’t get this.

Do remember this is not a tournament but rather a League. Sportsmanship, Fun,

and Learning the game are all Paramount to this endeavor. So do your best to
work with your opponents to make sure these games happen! Nice guys will
definitely not finish last. High Sportsmanship scores will be rewarded. Abnormally
low scores will be investigated and dealt with.

These games can be tense. I understand that. Take a deep breath, step away from
the table if you have to. But, violent behavior of ANY kind will not be tolerated.
Yelling, screaming, name-calling, badgering, and laying hands on another player will
result in a penalty of AT LEAST a point reduction in the league standings up to a
Disqualification and ejection from the league and forfeiture of any and all entry fee's
and prizes accrued as well as barred entry to further events.

If a Rules dispute comes up, simply stop the game find sources to support your
argument and show them to your opponents in a timely manner. If this cannot be
done swiftly or at all, then you can appeal to a judge for a ruling. I will be on call to
handle any such dispute on most nights and reaching out is encouraged. Once a
ruling has been made by the Tournament Organizer however, it will stand for the
entirety of the League. Appealing to the rulebooks or a judge is not an
unsportsmanlike offense, it is a right of all players. DO NOT ABUSE IT.

Keep it Civil guys, I mean we're already killing little plastic men, let's leave it to
them.
Winning a round is worth 5 pts - Tieing a round is worth 2pt -Losing a
round is worth 1pts
All tiebreakers for the league will be determined by first Strength of Schedule (how
well your opponents finished), then total sportsmanship score, and lastly victory
points accrued.
Rounds 1-2 will be Incursions and played on a 4x4
Rounds 3-5 will be Strike Forces and played on a 6x4
--------------------------------------------------------------
● Round 1 1000pts Feb 18 - March 3
● Round 2 1250pts March 4 - March 17
● Round 3 1500pts March 18 - March 31
● Round 4 1750pts Apr 1 - Apr 14
● Round 5 2000pts Apr 15 - Apr 28

Reference for play - These rules supercede the rules for the written mission or
rulebook unless otherwise stated

Start of Game Protocol:

Complete these pre-game items in the following order:
1. List Reveal: Both players reveal/exchange their lists simultaneously (this
means zero building or picking lists after seeing what your opponent has,
THIS is cheating and will be dealt with)
2. Muster Armies: as per the Leviathan Chapter Approved rules 3. Place
Objective Markers: as described in Deployment schema 4. Terrain:Determine
the terrain density by rolling a D3 for each 2'by 2' section of the battlefield and
noting it down.
Roll off and alternate deploying a terrain 'piece' anywhere on the
board. Each terrain 'piece' is either one substantial piece (such as a building,
ruin or forest) or at least 3 small pieces(such as battlefield debris, fences,
barricades, rocks forming a footprint, Shipping Crates, etc).
Terrain cannot be placed on top of or covering any objectives
Terrain must be fully 3” from other pieces of terrain, not counting the
small 3 pieces as they are considered the same “piece”. (adjust with
opponent as needed during setup)
All terrain placement shall be discussed and clarified with opponents
before moving forward. This is both a sportsmanship and rules issue. Do it so
we all have a good time!
5. Determine Attack and Defender: as per Leviathan rules
6. Select Secondary Objectives: as per Leviathan rules
7. Declare Battle Formations: as per Leviathan rules
8. Deployment: as per Leviathan Rules
9. Determine First Turn: as per Leviathan Rules
10. Redeployment: Any rules to redeploy or deploy before the first turn
happen now. This includes all pre-battle abilities, followed by scout moves
beginning with the player with the first turn.
11. Begin Play: Begin Play
