Speech Outline

Nursing: career, education, salary.

I. Introduction

A. Ever thought about becoming a nurse and what it take to become one? Before discussing
nursing careers one must know what nursing is all about.

B. Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of
health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and
treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and
populations.

C. With this speech, I'm going to explain and give ideas about the career, education, and salary for
being a nurse.

II. Body

A. Education

•Not all nursing require a two-year or four-year degree from a college or university. Nurses who
want to enter the workforce sooner can enroll in training programs that lead to licensure or certification.
These offer less of a time commitment or financial burden than earning a traditional postsecondary
degree. Students can begin a nursing career after completing a nursing assistant program — which can
take approximately 12 weeks — or a one-year training program for licensed practical and licensed
vocational nursing.

B. Career

• Think back to a recent doctor’s appointment. After you checked in at the front desk, chances are
a nurse was the first person you saw. Between asking about your health and checking your vitals, he or
she probably made what seemed like small talk. That small talk, however, was not just to put you at ease
or avoid silence.Skilled nurses know that taking the time to get to know patients can be extremely
helpful in uncovering important health information — information patients might not offer up otherwise.
After the doctor saw you, the nurse likely returned to talk through any medications the doctor
prescribed and to ask if you had any additional questions before helping you check out.The time nurses
spend with patients in the hospital is even greater. In a recent study of the time intensive care patients
spent with at least one healthcare practitioner, around 86% of that time was with nurses, compared to
just 13% with physicians. In the case of overnight hospital stays, the time spent with nurses was even
greater.
C. Salary

• In my country which is philippines registered nurses hired by hospitals commonly receive an

average salary of P9,757 ($193.36) a month. In government, the average salary per month is around
P13,500 ($267.54) while in the private sector, the rate average is around P10,000 ($198.18) per month.
Increasing nurses salary would greatly influence them to take greater pride in their work; enable them to
work harder and even reach for a higher paying position which means that they would that they would
upgrade their qualifications. For instance, a registered nurse will ensure he/she work extremely hard to
earn the position of the chief of nursing. As a result, the healthcare service will benefit and grow
positively towards achieving higher goals. As our motto says “Build and Advance as One People.”
Although money is a great motivator, it is not the most important reason why a person ventures into the
arena of nursing.

III. Conclusion

Nursing is not a joke career it's really hold a important role in our lives, so if you want to become a
nurse u must accept all the consequences of being a nurse, the tiredness that you will feel for being a
nurse will wash away after realizing that you save a million of people lives.
