Assignment-1

Computer Vision (EC409)

B.Tech. (Elective), Semester VII
MM: 20M Dated: 24-09-2024
Submission Date: 3rd October 2024
1. A grayscale image is represented with 4-bit intensity resolution. How many different
intensity levels are possible in this image, and how does it differ from an 8-bit grayscale
image? 2M
2. You have an image scanned at a resolution of 600 dpi. The physical dimensions of the
image are 12 inches by 10 inches. What is the spatial resolution (in pixels) of the
scanned image? 2M
3. If an image originally scanned at 300 dpi is downsampled by a factor of 2 (i.e., every
2nd pixel is kept), what will be the new resolution in dpi? How will this affect the
image’s quality? 2M
4. An RGB image is scanned with a resolution of 300 dpi and has physical dimensions of
6 inches by 5 inches. If the image is represented with 24-bit color (8 bits for each color
channel), what is the total size of the image in megabytes? 2M
5. A camera is positioned at (2,3,5) [instead of (0,0,0)]in the world coordinates. It is
rotated 45° counterclockwise around the y-axis and then 60° clockwise around the xxx-
axis. If the image plane is translated by (0.01,0.02,0.05), and the focal length is 0.05,
find the image coordinates of a world point located at (4,5,6). [Hint: find the
coordinates of world point (4,5,6) w.r.t. camera position] 4M

6. A camera with a focal length of 0.06 captures an image of a world point (1.5,2.5,−1).
If the focal length is halved, how do the image coordinates change? Provide the final
image coordinates before and after the change in focal length. 4M
7. For a given image perform closing followed by opening using 3x3 square structure
element and generate the filtered image. 4M
