Define the following:

1. Affidavit - A declaration or statement of facts, either in writing or printed, that is freely

made and verified by the oath or affirming-the-party in front of an official who has the

power to administer oaths of this kind.

2. Affiant - The person who makes an affidavit by endorsing or certifying that the

statements it contains are true.

3. Witness - A person who has seen or knows something about an event or situation. A

Somebody who can provide an account of an incident or scenario after having witnessed

it or knows something about it; frequently used in a court case.

4. Corroborating witness - A witness who supports another witness's testimony by offering

further details or supporting documentation.

5. Subscribe - signing or writing one's name at the conclusion of an affidavit is a way to

attest to the truthfulness of its contents and to the fact that it was made freely.

6. Sworn - Having taken an oath or affirmation to confirm the truthfulness of a statement or

document, such as an affidavit.

7. Police blotter - A police daily log that contains a list of all recorded crimes, incidents, and

arrests that have taken place in a given jurisdiction.

8. Extract copy - A photocopy or reproduction of an original document, often used in legal

contexts to provide a certified or authenticated copy of the original.

9. In flagrante delictu - A Latin phrase meaning "caught in the act" of committing a crime.

10. Malefactor - A person who commits a crime or does evil.

11. Respondent - the person who responds to or answers a complaint, petition, or other legal

action brought by another party.


12. Defendant - In a criminal case, the defendant is the person accused of committing a crime

13. Accused - a person or people who have been officially accused of committing a crime but

have not yet been found guilty.

14. Jurat - The part of a legal document, such as an affidavit, where the person making the

affidavit swears or affirms to the truth of its contents.

15. Affidavit of apprehension - a written declaration provided by a law enforcement official

or other authorized representative that describes the specifics of the situation and the

process involved in capturing a suspect.

16. Affidavit of videographer - A document signed by a videographer, stating that they have

recorded and preserved a video or footage as evidence in a legal matter.

17. Insulating witness - a witness who is not directly associated with the case but has

information or knowledge pertinent to the subject of the investigation or legal dispute.

18. Buybust - In this sort of operation, a law enforcement agency poseur-buyer pretends to

purchase illicit substances from the suspect.

19. Complaint - A written statement by a person who believes they have been harmed or

wronged, requesting a court or other authority to take action against the person alleged to

have caused the harm.

20. Information - an official record outlines, usually created by a prosecutor, that lists the

accusations made against a defendant in a criminal proceeding.
