DAVID AND GOLIATH – THIRD INHERITORS

David was between 13 and 15 when he fought Goliath.

“Then a champion named Goliath of Gath came forth out of the camp of the Philistines. He was six cubits and a span
high. He wore a bronze helmet on his head, and he wore armor, a coat of mail weighing five thousand shekels of
bronze. On his legs he wore bronze leg armor, and he had a bronze javelin slung on his back. His spear shaft was like a
weaver’s beam, and the head of the spear weighed six hundred iron shekels. His shield-bearer walked before him. He
stood and cried out to the armies of Israel, “Why do you not come out arrayed in battle line? Am I not a Philistine, and
are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me. If he is able to fight me and kill me, then we
will become your slaves. But if I defeat and kill him, then you will be our slaves and serve us.” Then the Philistine said,
“I defy the armies of Israel today. Give me a man so that we can fight each other.” — 1 Samuel 17:4-10

“As he was talking with them, Goliath of Gath, the champion of the Philistines, came forth from the Philistine lines, and he
shouted the same taunt, and David heard it. When all the Israelites saw the man, they ran away from him in great fear. Now
the Israelites had been saying, “Do you see how this man keeps coming out? Surely, he comes out to defy Israel. The king
will give a great reward to the man who kills him. He will even give him his daughter in marriage, and he will exempt his
father’s family from taxes in Israel.” David spoke to the men who were standing by him saying, “What will be done for the
man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should
defy the armies of the living God?” The people answered him saying something like, “This is what will be done for the man
who kills him.” — 1 Samuel 17:23-27

“David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of him. Your servant will go out and fight with this
Philistine.” 33 Saul said to David, “You cannot go out against the Philistine and fight with him. You are only a boy, and he
has been a warrior since he was young.” 34 David said to Saul, “Your servant has been tending his father’s sheep. When a
lion or a bear would come and carry a lamb away from the flock, 35 I would chase after it and strike it and rescue it from
out of its mouth. When it would rise up against me, I would seize it by its fur and strike and kill it. 36 Your servant has killed
lion and bear. This uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them because he has defied the army of the living
God.” 37 David continued, “The Lord who has delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver
me out of the hands of this Philistine.” Saul then said to David, “Go, and may the Lord be with you.” — 1 Samuel 17:32-
37

“Saul dressed David in his own armor. He put a bronze helmet on his head and covered him with a coat of mail. 39 David
fastened his sword over his armor, and he tried to walk around in it, but he was not used to it. David said to Saul, “No! I
cannot walk in these, because I am not used to them.” David then took them off. 40 He took his staff in his hand, and he
chose five smooth stones from out of the stream. He put them in a pouch in his shepherd’s bag, and with his sling in his
hand, he approached the Philistine.” — 1 Samuel 17:38-40

“8 When the Philistine got up and approached David, David ran quickly to meet the Philistine in battle. 49 David reached
into his bag and pulled out a stone. He launched it with the sling and struck the Philistine on his forehead. The stone sunk
into his forehead, and he fell face first to the earth. 50 David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone. David
struck down the Philistine and killed him, even without carrying a sword in his hand. 51 David ran over to the Philistine
and stood over him. He took hold of his sword and drew it out from the sheath. He killed the Philistine and cut off his head
with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.” — 1 Samuel 17:48-51

“The word of the Lord came to me, saying: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I
consecrated you. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. Then I replied, “Ah, Lord God! You must be aware that I am
not skilled in the art of speaking. I am only a young boy.” 7 But the Lord said: Do not say, “I am only a young boy.” You
will go to whomever I send you, and you will speak whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with
you to deliver you, says the Lord.” — Jeremiah 1:4-9 (Jeremiah was 20 years old when he started his mission)
CHILDREN OF GOD
“7 Now, O Lord, my God, you have established your servant as king in the place of David, my father, but I am only a small
child and do not know how to go out and come in. 8 Your servant is among the people you have chosen, a great people.
There are so many of them that they cannot be numbered or counted. 9 Therefore, give your servant a discerning heart to
judge your people and to distinguish between what is good and what is bad, for who would be able to judge this, your great
people?” 10 It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked for this. 11 God said to him, “Because you have asked for this
thing, and you have not asked for a long life for yourself, or that you be rich, or for the life of your enemies, but you asked
for understanding to discern what is just, 12 behold, I am fulfilling your request. I will give you such a wise and
understanding heart that there was never anyone like you before your times, nor will anyone like you rise up afterwards.”

“8 However, Daniel was determined not to defile himself by partaking of food and wine from the royal table, and he pleaded
with the chief eunuch to spare him this defilement. 9 God influenced the eunuch to grant this favor and to treat Daniel with
compassion. 10 However, the eunuch said to Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king. He has specifically designated what
food and drink are to be supplied to you. If he should notice that you appear to be notably thinner than the other young men
of your age, he would probably issue a command that I be beheaded.” 11 Then Daniel said to the guard whom the eunuch
had assigned to supervise Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 12 “Please test your servants for a period of ten days,
during which we will be given only vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 You can then compare our appearance with that
of the young men who eat only the food designated by the king. Then deal with your servants and treat us in accordance
with what you observe.” 14 The guard agreed to this proposal and tested them for a period of ten days. 15 At the end of the
ten days they looked better nourished and healthier than any of the young men who had subsisted solely on the food provided
by the king. 16 Therefore, the guard continued to withdraw the food and the wine they were to drink, and he provided them
with vegetables. 17 To these four young men God gave knowledge and skill in every aspect of literature and learning. In
addition, Daniel was given the gift of interpreting visions and dreams of every kind.” — Daniel 1: 8-17

that I must be in my Father’s house?” 50 But they did not comprehend what he said to them.” — Luke 2:46-50
