Acknowledgement
Firstly, I would like to thank God for life, guidance, and strength because
without him I would not be here in this present time to complete this
intriguing task.
I would also like to thank my parents for their continuous love and support,
for providing for me physically, mentally, financially and with the physical
aids to get through this pandemic.
I would also like to thank my teacher, Mr O.Simpson for taking the time out
to guide me throughout the process of the competition and being there as a
source of help whenever something was misunderstood.
Thank
you all
Introduction
The School Based Assessment for Physical Education instructs that
students are to host a competition with each student taking on the
responsibility of one role as an official in the tournament. The students
were required to manage every aspect of the tournament such as planning
out games, raising money for prizes, as well as creating rules.
Throughout the competition, each student was required to fulfill the
responsibility of their respective role and report on what they have done.
My S.B.A is based on the role of the Competition Manager.
Football Brief History
Origins (Ancient Times)
● The roots of football can be traced back to ancient civilizations.
Variants of the game were played in China (cuju), Greece
(episkyros), and Rome (harpastum).
Medieval Period
● In medieval Europe, a variety of folk football games emerged, often
involving large teams and few rules. These games were often chaotic
and played during festivals.
Formation of Rules (19th Century)
● In the mid-19th century, various schools in England began codifying
the rules of the game. In 1863, the Football Association (FA) was
formed, establishing standardized rules, which distinguished
association football (soccer) from rugby.
Growth and Professionalization (Late 19th Century)
● Football quickly gained popularity in England and spread to other
countries. The first official league, The Football League, was
established in 1888. The first international match was played between
Scotland and England in 1872.
FIFA and Global Expansion (20th Century)
● The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) was
founded in 1904, leading to the first FIFA World Cup in 1930 in
Uruguay. The tournament has since grown to become the most
prestigious event in football.
Modern Era
● Football continues to evolve, with professional leagues around the
world, the introduction of technology like VAR, and increasing
commercialization. Major tournaments like the UEFA Champions
League and domestic leagues (e.g., Premier League, La Liga) are
now globally followed.
Cultural Impact
● Football has become a significant cultural phenomenon, inspiring
unity and passion among fans worldwide. It plays a crucial role in
promoting values like teamwork and sportsmanship.
How The Game Is Played
Objective
● The main goal is to score more goals than the opposing team by
getting the ball into the opponent's net.
Players and Positions
● Each team consists of 11 players:
○ 1 goalkeeper
○ 10 outfield players (forwards, midfielders, and defenders)
● Positions may vary based on team strategy.
Field and Equipment
● Matches are played on a rectangular field, typically 100-110 meters
long and 64-75 meters wide.
● The game uses a spherical ball, usually size 5 for adults.
Match Duration
● A standard match consists of two halves, each lasting 45 minutes,
with a 15-minute halftime break. Additional time (stoppage time) may
be added.
Starting the Game
● The game starts with a kick-off from the center circle. The team that
wins the coin toss decides whether to kick off or choose a goal to
defend.
Basic Rules
● Players can use any part of their body except their arms and hands
(goalkeepers can use their hands within the penalty area).
● Fouls are called for actions like tripping, pushing, or holding
opponents.
● Free kicks and penalty kicks are awarded for fouls depending on their
location and severity.
Scoring
● A goal is scored when the entire ball crosses the goal line between
the goalposts and under the crossbar.
Offside Rule
● A player is considered offside if they are in front of the last defender
(excluding the goalkeeper) when the ball is played to them, unless
they are receiving the ball from a throw-in, corner, or goal kick.
Substitutions
● Teams can make a limited number of substitutions during a match,
typically three in most competitions, with variations in some leagues.
Winning the Game
● The team with the most goals at the end of the match wins. If the
score is tied, the match may go into extra time or a penalty shootout,
depending on the competition rules.
