Course Outcomes (COs)
On completion of this course, the students will be able to:
CO1: Understand the theoretical and jurisprudential foundation of labour laws and labour
welfare
CO2: Evaluate general principles of labour and industrial laws in the light of the development
and legislations, socio- economic scenario and human rights values to be enshrined in labour
legislations.
CO3: Examine the methods of Labour disputes and welfare by means of adjudicatio
CO4: Equip the student with the skill set requirements of Labour relations in the industry
CO5 : Apply legal knowledge and skills in solving problems associated with workers'
interests and rights vis-à-vis employers' duties in the area of working conditions, employment
conditions, wage, social security and other related aspects of work and employment

Course Contents:
Unit/Module I: Theoretical foundation 7 hours
Historical Development of idea of “Wages” in India, Genesis of Wage Regulation-Deduction
Theory, Subsistence Theory, Cost of Production Theory, Wage Fund Theory, Theory of
Marginal Productivity and Determinant Theory
Unit II: Wages 15 hours
Laws relating to payment of wages, minimum wages, Laws relating to equal remuneration,
Laws relating to payment of bonus, Salient features of the Code on Wages 2019
Unit III: Social Security 26 hours
Laws relating to Employees Provident Funds, Employees’ State Insurance,Laws relating to
Employees’ Compensation, Maternity Benefit, Payment of Gratuity, Laws relating to
Unorganised Workers, Salient feature of Code on Social Security
Unit IV: Labour Welfare 10 hours
Provisions relating to Factories , Law relating to Contract Labour , Special provisions relating
to inter-state migrant workers, Salient features of Occupational Safety, Health and Working
Conditions Code, 2019
Unit V: ILO 12 hours
Salient features of ILO Conventions on workmen’s compensation, sickness insurance, Salient
features of ILO Conventions on invalidity, old age and survivor’s insurance, unemployment
insurance , Salient features of ILO Conventions on maternity protection,Indian perspective
