ASSIGNMENT

ELECTROMAGNETIC INDUCTION

Q1. A long solenoid with 15 turns per cm has a small loop of area 2.0 cm2 placed Inside the solenoid normal to its
axis. If the current carried by the solenoid changes steadily from 2.0 to 4.0 In 0.1s, then what is the induced emf in
the loop while the current Is changing?

Q2. The current flowing in the two coils of self inductance L1 = 16 MH and L2= 12 MH are increasing at the same
rate. If the power supplied to the two coils are equal, then find the ratio of [1] Induced voltages [2] the currents
[3] the energies stored in the coil?

Q3. Current in a circuit falls steadily from 2.0 A to 0.0 A in 10 ms. If an average emf of 200 V is induced, then
calculate the self inductance of the circuit.

Q4. The magnetic flux through a coil perpendicular to its plane and directed into paper is varying according to the
relation Ø = (5t +10t + 5) milliweber. Calculate the induced emf in the loop at t = 5 s.

Q5. An aircraft with a wingspan of 40 m files with a speed of 1080 km/hr in the eastward direction at a constant
altitude in the northern hemisphere, where the vertical component of earth's magnetic field is 1.75 x 10-5 T. Find
the e.m.f that develops between the tips or the wings.

Q6. A wheel with 10 metallic spokes each 0.5 m long is rotated with a speed of 120 rpm, in a plane normal to
earth's magnetic field at the place. If the magnitude of the field is 0.4 gauss, what is the Induced e.m.f between
the axle and rim of the wheel.

Q7. A solenoid coil has 50 turns per cm along its length and a cross sectional area of 4 cm2. 200 turns of another
wire are wound round the first solenoid co-axially. The two coils are electrically Insulated from each other.
Calculate the mutual Inductance between the two coils.

Q8. A uniform magnetic field B exists in a direction perpendicular to the plane of a square frame made of copper
wire. the wire has a diameter of 2mm and a total length of 40 cm.. The magnetic field with time at a steady rate
db/dt = 0.02 T/s. Find the current induced in the frame. ꭍ resistivity of copper: 1.7 × 10-3 ohm m .

09. A square loop of side 10 cm long resistance 0.7 is placed vertically in the east west plane. A uniform magnetic
field of 0.1 T is setup across the plane in north east direction. The magnetic field is decreased to zero In 0.7 s. At a
steady rate. Determine the induced e.m.f and current during this time interval.

Q10. If a 10 m long metallic bar moves in a direction at right angle to the magnetic field with a speed of 5.0 m/s,
25 V e.m.f is induced in it. Find the value of magnetic field intensity.

Q11. A circular coil X of radius 0.02 m and turns 100 is placed co-axially at the center of another circular coil Y of
radius 0.2 m and turns 1000. Find the mutual inductance of the coils. If current in Y changes from 7A to 5A in
4x10-2 s, what is the e.m.f induced in X.

Q12. A conducting circular loop is placed in a uniform magnetic field B = 0.02 T with Its plane perpendicular to the
field. somehow, the radius of the loop starts shrinking at a constant rate of 1.0 mm/s. Find the induced e.m.f in the
loop at an instant when the radius is 2 cm?

Q13. A copper rod of length 0.5 m rotates about one of its ends at angular velocity of 32 radian per second in a
uniform magnetic field of induction 0.4 Wb/m2, the plane of rotation being at right angles to the field. Find the
e.m.f developed between the ends of the rod.
Q14. A 12 V battery connected to a 6 ohm, 10 H coil through a switch drives a constant current in the circuit. The
switch is suddenly opened. Assuming that it took 1 ms to open the switch, calculate the average e.m.f Induced
across the coll.

Q15. A railway track running N-S has two parallel rails 1.0 m apart. Calculate the value of induced e.m.f between
the rails, when a train passes at a speed of 90 km/hr. Horizontal component of earth's field at that place is 0.3 x
10-4 Wb/m2 and the angle of dip is 60°.

Q16. A long solenoid with 15 turns per cm has a small loop of area 2 cm2 placed inside normal to the axis of
solenoid the current carried by the solenoid changes steadily from 2A to 4A in 0.1s. what is the induced EMF in
loop while the current is changing?
