A/ Comprehension (08 points)
Read the text very carefully then do the activities
A recent survey was conducted in Nacer Bey Slimane high school by a group of students in order to
assess the interest of teenagers in studying foreign languages, mainly English and French. People in the area
think that kids nowadays find learning foreign languages boring and difficult. The study was carried out
with a sample group of 40 teenagers aged between 15 and 18 years so as to find out if this was true.
The results of the study were quite surprising. It was found that a majority of teenagers showed a keen
interest in studying English and French. Nearly 80% of the informants expressed a strong desire to learn
English, while more than 60% of them showed an interest in learning French.
The arguments cited by the teenagers for their interest in learning these languages were varied. Some
felt that knowing English and French would open up more job opportunities for them in the future, while
others wanted to travel and explore different cultures. A few teenagers expressed a desire to pursue higher
education abroad, and believed that learning these languages would be beneficial in achieving their goals.
These results challenge the notion that teenagers are not interested in studying foreign languages. It is
evident that they do value the importance of being bilingual and appreciate the advantages it can bring.
