IV. READING
Read the passage and choose the correct answer A, B, C, or D to each question.
The phrase “healthy lifestyle” is the definition of how you should live if you want to get the healthiest
body you can, one that both looks good and feels good. You know the obvious behaviors that describe someone
who is healthy and takes care of themselves.
A healthy person doesn’t smoke, eats healthy foods with plenty of fruits, vegetables and fiber and, of
course, exercises regularly. A healthy person also knows how to manage stress, gets good quality sleep each
night, doesn’t drink too much, doesn’t sit too much, does everything in moderation all the time. When you look at
everything that could possible make healthy lifestyle, you can see just how hard all of those things are in our
current world.
There is no such thing as a “bad” food, but there are some foods you should try not have regular basis.
Fast food refers to food that can be prepared and served quickly. It is popular as a food is inexpensive,
convenient, and tastes good. Because fast food is high in sodium, trans fat, and cholesterol, it isn’t something you
should eat often.
The good news is you don’t have to change everything at the same time. In fact, the trick to healthy living
is making small changes - taking more steps each day, adding fruits to your cereal, having an extra glass of water,
or saying no to that second helping of buttery mashed potatoes. One thing you can do right now to make your
lifestyle healthier is to move more.

READING:
Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct
option that best fits each of the numbered blanks.
There are some ways by which generation gap can be bridged. Firstly, parents and their children have to be aware
of the importance of open communication. In order to break the “ice” and rebuild a close parent-child
relationship, communication is extremely crucial. Parents should not only concentrate (36)_______their jobs and
leave their children alone. They have to reserve some specific time to be with their children and show
(37)_______ to them. Similarly, children have to discuss serious things or big decisions with their parents as it
shows respect to them. On the whole, both parents and children should try to explain their ideas to family
(38)_______ in a forgiving manner without anger or hatred. The second one is that parents must not put too much
pressure on their children’s studies. Parents (39) ________ have too high expectation. They have to discuss their
children’s progress with the teachers. Moreover, parents should work closely with schools through Parent-
Teacher Association in order to participate in more talks and extracurricular activities with their children.
(40)______, parents should know what their children like the most. Indeed. they should give their children a
chance to choose what they love if the choices resort to proper outlets. Accordingly, the generation gap between
parents and their children can easily be bridged.

Question 38 A. arguments B. characteristics C. members D. matters
Question 39 A. should B. should not C. must D. have to
Question 40. A. However B. Therefore C. As a result D. Furthermore

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct
answer to each of the questions.
In American, although most men still do less housework than their wives, that gap has been halved since the
1960s. Today, 41 per cent of couples say they share childcare equally, compared with 25 percent in 1985. Men’s
greater involvement at home is good for their relationships with their spouses, and also good for their children.
Hands-on fathers make better parents than men who let their wives do all the nurturing and childcare. They raise
sons who are more expressive and daughters who are more likely to do well in school – especially in math and
Science.
In 1900, life expectancy in the United States was 47 years, and only four per cent of the population was 65 or
older. Today, life expectancy is 76 years, and by 2025, it is estimated about 20 per cent of the u.s, population will
be 65 or older. For the first time, a generation of adults must plan for the needs of both their parents and their
children. Most Americans are responding with remarkable grace. One in four households gives the equivalent of
a full day a week or more in unpaid care to an aging relative, and more than half say they expect to do so in the
next 10 years. Older people are less likely to be impoverished or incapacitated by illness than in the past, and
have more opportunity to develop a relationship with their grandchildren.
Even some of the choices that worry people the most are turning out to be manageable. Divorce rates are likely to
remain high, and in many cases marital breakdown causes serious problems for both adults and kids. Yet when
parents minimize conflict, family bonds can be maintained. And many families are doing this. More non-
custodial parents are staying in touch with their children. Child-support receipts are rising. A lower proportion of
children from divorced families are exhibiting problems than in earlier decades. And step-families are learning to
maximize children’s access to supportive adults rather than cutting them off from one side of the family.
(Adapted from U.S. Society and Value)

and improve people's lives.
A smart city is a modern urban area (37)_______ uses a range of technologies to provide services, solve

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct
answer to each of the questions.
Cities are built to survive and prosper. Over the years, we have learned to transform our surroundings
according to our needs. We have cut through mountains to make more land and created artificial islands to make
skyscrapers. City planning, as an organized profession, has existed for less than a century. However, a
considerable amount of evidence (both archaeological and historical) proves the existence of fully planned cities
in ancient times. Over the years, humans have made some mistakes in terms of using an excessive amount of
resources for cities. This gives rise to the question of how sustainable the cities of the future would be.
We might be looking at smart cities in which street lights would only switch on when you are close by
and traffic light would be eliminated by smart driving. The cities of the future would try to save our resources
rather than deplete them.
An example of an advanced city is Kansas. Plans are in place to make Kansas a smart futuristic city in the
future. Planners are considering introducing sensors to monitor the water mains. Warning would be issued to city
officials when the infrastructure requires repair or replacement. In this way, the city would never be at risk of
having broken pipes.
While the idea sounds fantastic, a large amount of rational critique has called this plan an oversold dream.
Amy Glasmier is an urban planning professor at MIT. She is a smart city skeptic who believes that all the
research and talk is great but gravely oversold.
41. The residents in Kansas would not be worried about water in the future because ___.
A. the city will never have broken water pipes
B. city officials often repair or replace the water mains
C. here may be no disruption to water supply
D. the infrastructure requires no repair or replacement
42. Which could be the best title for the passage?
A. Negative impacts of Smart Cities B. Predictions about the Cities of the Future
C. How to improve the Cities of the Future D. Steps to set up the Cities of the Future
43. All of the following statements may be true about smart cities EXCEPT that ___.
A. traffic light would be controlled by smart driving
