Project Title

Project CES: Providing Equipment and Hygiene Supplies for Crossing Elementary School

Rationale

Republic Act No. 9163 establishes the National Training Service Program or NSTP
which is defined as a program aimed at enhancing civic consciousness and defense
preparedness in the youth developing the ethics of service and patriotism while undergoing
training in the three programs component namely Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS),
Literacy Training Service (LTS) and defense preparedness through Reserve Officer Training
Corps (ROTC).

LPU - St. Cabrini focuses on two components: the Civic Welfare Training Service
(CWTS) which pertains to the program component or activities that contribute to the general
welfare and betterment of life through improvement of health, education, environment,
entrepreneurial ship, safety, recreation and moral citizenry and other social services; and the
Literacy Training Service (LTS) a program component designed to train students to teach
literacy and numeracy skills to school children, out of school youths and other segments of
society in need of the services.

Service driven by academic objectives to uphold healthcare awareness is the major goal
of “Project CES: Providing Equipment and Hygiene Supplies for Crossing Elementary School” of
LPU – St. Cabrini NSTP2 – CWTS program.

Helping public schools to secure a safe place for the school community is a little step
youth can make. It is like giving the next generation an awareness to spread health awareness.
(Steroplast Healthcare, 2021). Therefore, LPU - SC NSTP 2 students aim to help the target
beneficiaries develop health awareness. They intend to fulfill this mission by donating clinical
equipment and supplies for the ongoing school clinic, and disseminating knowledge about
first-aid safety, good hygiene, and proper storage and usage of medical supplies.

Objectives

Specific Objectives

At the end of the project, the target beneficiaries will be able to:
1. Have access to the newly-built school clinic and its healthcare services;
2. Improve first-aid response; and
3. Practice proper hygiene and appropriate storage and usage of medical supplies.

Project Scope and limitations

This project aims to promote health and general well- being of members of the school
that will benefit the school community, especially students of Crossing Elementary School in
Calamba City, Laguna by collaborating with Tanauan Institute Inc and LPU- St. Cabrini Red
Cross which will help increase the budget for financial assistance. This primarily focuses on
raising awareness of the current state of facilities, particularly among members of the
community, determining potential methods for improving the facilities, providing clinical
equipment, enhancing the potential of school health services in providing access to effective
prevention or procedure minor emergency care, ensuring that the provided clinical equipment
meets the standard of a good medical equipment, and conducting a seminar about proper
maintenance of the distributed equipment. In addition, the purpose of proponents in choosing
Crossing Elementary School is to address and satisfy the needs of facilities. Due to limited
funds and time constraints, this project proposal will restrain itself in providing clinical
equipment, providing hygiene supplies, and conducting a brief demonstration about utilization of
first aid kit as well as education on proper maintenance of the equipment. Furthermore, the
prerequisite is that the proponents need to coordinate with Tanauan Institute Inc. and ask for
approval from the school principal.

Target Beneficiaries
Crossing Elementary School is located at Crossing Sampaguita Street in Calamba,
Laguna. The school has a total of 18 rooms with 1,054 students, which makes it difficult for
children to concentrate on their studies due to the lack of ventilation, which may cause nausea.
The donation of clinical equipment and a brief seminar on the maintenance of clinical equipment
will help the new clinic at Crossing Elementary school in maximizing its capacity in delivering
health care service to pupils. The intended beneficiaries of this project are the children, parents,
and teachers who will have access to better school health services. Access to health care
services will stimulate children to learn in a more conducive environment, now that the school
clinic has a permanent location and is equipped. In addition, parents will be ensured that their
child/children will get basic preventative care at the new facility. Furthermore, this project will
also benefit teachers as they will receive prompt care if they feel unwell during work hours.

Needs Assessment Plan

Crossing Elementary School is located in Calamba, Laguna. An interview with Mr. Noli
Taroy, the school principal, was used to conduct the needs assessment activity. The interview
was conducted to determine what issues concern the school. Mr. Taroy specified equipment that
are needed and they specifically requested those equipment which are lacking in their school

clinic such as first-aid kit, medical cabinet, blood pressure monitor, thermometer, folding
bed, and tissue dispenser. Thus, this project will briefly focus on the donation of healthcare and
medical equipment and supplies, as well as teaching students about health and hygiene.
