Finland is the sixth largest country in europe in terms of area. after iceland and norway, Finland is the most sparsely populated country in europe with only 17 inhabitants per square km. approximately 67 per cent of the 5.3 million people live in urban areas. During the summer, it never gets really dark, and in the north the sun does not set at all for some time. During the winter months, there are six hours of full daylight in the south while for two months in the far north, the sun never rises above the horizon. Finland is also traditionally known for its high level of technology and outstanding architecture and design.

the Masters Programme in telecommunication engineering covers the basic technology, systems, and software tools needed in building communication networks and network services. the programme covers the areas of telecommunication architecture evolution, digital communication, and radio technology. the key subject areas in mobile networks are wireless communication, quality of service, mobility and security. students are offered courses in both general telecommunications and in specific fields of mobile communication. after completion of this programme, students are prepared to contribute to research projects and organisations in the information technology and telecommunication industries. career opportunities may range from hardware and software design to the management of plants and industries. the programme is designed to meet the demand for professionals with competence in both telecommunication engineering and computer science. the Masters Programme in telecommunication engineering leads to a Master of science in technology degree, and it can be completed in two years.

to apply to the Masters Programme in telecommunication engineering, you should have completed a Bachelors degree in the field of telecommunications, computer science, production automation, or electrical engineering. the city of Vaasa is located on the west coast of Finland. its position at the narrowest point of the gulf of Bothnia makes it an important link between Finland and Sweden. The closest city is Ume in Sweden (70 km). Vaasa is a distinctively international city, second only to the capital Helsinki in the number of foreigners per capita. in this bilingual city of 58 000 inhabitants, one out of four people is swedish speaking. With its 12 000 students,Vaasa is also a lively student city.
