E-MAIL WRITING
E-mail stands for electronic mail.
An e-mail is a method of
composing, sending, storing and
receiving messages over an
electronic system. . It is the most
preferred means of communication
because it is cheap and fast. No
aspect of modern communication
can do without e-mail and internet.
E-mail can be categorized into two categories:
Formal E-mail
Informal E-mail
A formal e-mail can be written to companies, organizations, government departments,
offices etc. Just like a formal letter, we use formal language in a formal e-mail.
An informal e-mail is a form of personal communication. It can be written to family, friends
and relatives. The language used in an informal e-mail is conversational and friendly in tone.
Points to Remember:
An e-mail must have sender’s and receiver’s e-mail address and
date.
Clearly state the subject line which is informative, direct
and states the main purpose. Keep it short. Ideally, the
subject line should stand around 2 to 5 words.
Salutation includes the first name of the receiver in case of
informal e-mail and Sir/Madam in case of formal e-mail.
Use a single sheet only to write an email when doing it in a pen-paper format.
Be brief and adhere to the word limit of 80-100 words.
An e-mail should have well-formed sentences and short paragraphs.
Enclose the e-mail in a box.
