Global Strategy in Preventing as well as Controlling Noncommunicable Diseases.
Introduction
In recognition of the significance of global burden posed by non-communicable diseases
including their effects on individuals, communities together with healthcare systems worldwide,
we acknowledge the need for comprehensive and coordinated approach in preventing as well
as controlling non-communicable diseases, and as a fact of emphasizing the significance of
strategic communication, practical implementation together with teamwork in achieving the set
goals in all endeavors. In relation to this, the World Health Organization has adopted some
fundamental global strategies for the prevention together with controlling non-communicable
diseases ( Ayeleke, 2018).
Markwell (2017) explains that the World Health Organization has gained it global strength in
numerous approaches such as comprehensive approach, the strategy which encompasses
multiple non-communicable diseases through addressing risk factors,early detection, diagnosis,
treatment together with palliative care; holistic perspective, the strategy which emphasizes
holistic approach, considering social, economic as well as environmental determinants of health;
multisectoral collaboration,the strategy encouraging collaboration amongst various sectors
including health, education, finance as well as industry in addressing the root causes of non-
communicable diseases; evidence-based interventions, the strategy promoting evidence based
interventions including policies informed via scientific research together with expert consensus;
global guidance, the strategy providing guidance as well as support to member states enabling
them to adapt the recommendations in their local contexts. Even though World Health
Organization has gained some global strengths, it has also experienced some fundamental
weaknesses such as implementation challenges owing to limited resources, infrastructure as
well as capacity in some countries thereby hindering the effective implementation; political will
strategy relying on political commitment as well as sustained government support influencing
competing priorities; the need for robust systems in monitoring as well as evaluation of the
impact of strategy in the establishment in ensuring accountability together with informing
adaptive measures; and the requirements of specific attention majorly in low resource settings
through ensuring equitable access to non-communicable disease prevention and control
measures (Schmidt, 2017).
In the global strategy for prevention as well as control of non-communicable diseases, the World
Health Organization has employed some vital key aspects of strategic communication including
implementation. Through strategic communication, it has raised awareness via developing and
implementation of the targeted communication campaigns in raising public awareness about
non-communicable diseases risk factors, prevention together with available services. It has also
strengthened health literacy through provision of evidence-based information on non-
communicable diseases thereby empowering individuals in making informed decisions in regard
to their health status. Furthermore, it has partnered with governments,civil society,healthcare
providers,academia including the private sector in amplifying messages as well as promoting
collective action. Now, on implementation the World Health Organization has encouraged
member states to develop comprehensive national action plans in tailored to their specific
epidemiological profiles as well as resource capacities, building the capacity in supporting
member states in strengthening healthcare systems, workforce development,data collection
including research capabilities in relation to non-communicable diseases prevention as well as
control. Moreover, integrating non-communicable diseases prevention together with control
interventions into the existing healthcare systems in ensuring synergy as well as efficiency in
health systems integration. Lastly, the World Health Organization has facilitated knowledge
exchange, technical assistance including resource mobilization among member states in
supporting implementation efforts via international cooperation. As a fact, communication and
implementation has been a major contributor in the success of the World Health Organization
since its inception some decades ago.
Having discussed the strengths, weaknesses, communication and implementation for the same,
I would like to discuss some additional vital key considerations. Additional important
considerations include: health equity which addresses health inequalities through prioritizing
vulnerable populations as well as reducing disparities in access to non-communicable diseases
prevention, treatment as well as care services; promotion of research including innovation in
advancing the understanding, prevention as well as management of non-communicable
diseases which include developing affordable technologies and interventions through research
and innovation; advocating for coherent policies across sectors in creating an enabling
environment for health such regulations on tobacco control,food labeling and urban planning;
strengthening data collection systems as well as surveillance mechanisms in monitoring non-
communicable diseases trends , evaluating interventions as well as informing evidence based
decision making in data and surveillance; and finally, encouraging member states to allocate
sufficient resources as well as exploring innovative financing mechanisms in sustaining non-
communicable diseases prevention together with control efforts.
Team building strategies for leaders will actually communicate a shared vision as well as
mission to all team members thereby fostering a sense of purpose including direction. This will
be in addition to encouraging collaboration as well as interdisciplinary teamwork through valuing
team members of diverse perspectives as well as expertise in leadership development in line
with empowering team members with the necessary skills to drive efficient and effective policy
development as well as implementation which can lead to the establishment of open and
transparent communication channels to facilitate information sharing, decision making as well
as feedback within the team, and lastly,recognizing and acknowledging the contributions of
team members in the provision of the necessary support , resources as well as training to excel
on their roles ( World Health Organization, 2000).
In regard to challenges, Zajac (2021). posits that establishment and maintaining effective
teamwork in healthcare the World Health Organization has developed hierarchical structures
which fosters a culture of collaboration hence can be challenging in healthcare settings,
interprofessional differences create barriers to effective teamwork. This includes communication
barriers owing to inadequate communication channels, language barriers as well as information
gaps which eventually impedes effective teamwork. Furthermore, resource constraints which
come as a result of limited resources,time pressures as well as workload demands hinder the
ability to dedicate sufficient attention to teamwork. And lastly, resistance to change including
the status quo hindering the adoption of new teamwork practices as well as collaboration
initiatives.
Conclusion
The World Health Organization resolutions highlight the strengths as well as weaknesses of the
global strategy for preventing together with controlling non-communicable diseases thereby
emphasizing the importance of strategic communication, practical implementation as well as
team building strategies for successful policy development including disease control, so, by the
consideration of vital policies as well as addressing challenges to teamwork in healthcare, it is a
fact that we can collectively struggle towards a common goal through prevention and controlling
of non-communicable diseases which eventually leads to improving worldwide health outcomes
