Gram Sewa Sansthan
The Gram Seva Sansthan (GSS) is a voluntary and charitable, grass root
level, development constructive organization. Integrated and sustainable
development of the entire hilly terrain together with human resources, with
the co-operation of the masses is the motto of the Gram Seva Sansthan. GSS
is registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act (1860), Indian
Income Tax Act 1961 and under the FCRA with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
GSS has active grass root level rural integrated development, technical
support and working programmes in Natural Resource Management, Rural
Organizations monitoring, Environment Education and protection,
Microfinance Programme, Capacity Building, Community Alternative Energy,
Child Environment, Social Evils Eradication and Dalit Upliftment.
Vision
A living in peace and good citizenship with spiritual, nature justice, freedom,
equity, and integrity, the society is strengthened, where power, resources,
divine Culture, harmony with the nature.
Mission
1. To endorse and uphold Gram Sewa Sansthan as an organization dedicated
to building a society, for the values of truth, justice, freedom, equity, peace
and divine Cultural [Link], to increase, manage Natural
Resources, and to engage in integrated sustainable livelihoods plurality in
harmony with the weaker sections of society Such as Minorities, Women,
Dalits, Tribal’s, Children and handicapped, is the main objectives are Gram
Sewa Sansthan.
2. To engage in integrated sustainable development, movements, capacity
building and enterprise, which be, will significant and innovative. To achieve
our objectives through committed and capable team in partnership with
compatible organizations and individuals of national and international.
3. To improve the capability of the human resources in environs of integrity,
approach, and direction of the degraded, marginalized poor society. To
consolidating, promoting and mainstreaming alternative development
experiences in sustainable integrated mountain development.
Objectives:
1. To behavior integrated sustainable development of Dalit, Tribal, women,
children, aged, orphans, widows and handicapped in order to bringing the
social, economic, educational, health, cultural, justice, freedom, equity, and
peace and environment development. On the principles of village self-
governance, building a self-dependence, equitable, cultured, and healthy,
educated and decentralized society.
2. To remove poverty, disease, untouchability, and socio-economic
disparities are from the region.
3. To cultivate a spirit of enterprise, self-dependence and confidence among
the community, through bringing scientific temperament and developing
capacity.

Achievement of the organization
1991-93 nursery development and plantation drive was carried out and from
1993-99, a baalwadi program was co-coordinated with the support from
UKSN, almora to raise environmental awareness among the children. In
response the devastating earthquake in 1991, 1200 needy families were
helped to rehabilitate with assistance from EFFICOR, NewDelhi. In 1994-96 a
program to reduce workload of women was carried out with the support of
CHIRAG, Nainital. It included promotion of alternative energy source use of
Bio-gas.1995-99: IGSSS New Delhi supported program on women
empowerment program, watershed development and relief works from
natural disasters. Health awareness was spread among the school children
with assistance of UPVHA, Dehradun,Apart from that, 10 poor children were
provided hostel facilities to educate. In this phase, a large number of chaals
and,tanks were constructed to harvest rainwater, and increase productivity
from land supported by FORRAD,New Lucknow was being implemented in 56
Rev. Villages in Tehri Garhwal.
2002-2006:A comprehensive watershed based natural resources
management program was being undertaken in 4 villages with the financial
support from Sir Ratan Tata Trust Mumbai.2006-2009:Disaster community
Management program is being undertaken in 4 villages with the financial
support from UNDPE-DMU uttarakhand govt.2006-2009:Special component
plan advocacy with the govt. state level social networking & lawyers forums
establishment and Dalit community awareness in uttarakhand this program
is operating with the financial support from Novib Netherlands by National
Dalit Forum & Centre for world solidarity Andhra Pradesh. After 2010, SHGs,
NRM& Flood Relief programme by GOONJ NewDelhi have been undertaken.

Project Area:
Proposed project area isDhalwala, 14 Bigha & Munikireti villages of Tehri
Gumaniwal ofUttarakhand,there are more than 10 thousands households in
these three villages where majority of the disadvantaged peoples. Most of
the families depend on daily casual labor. Every year, these areas affectby
the destructive flood [Link] privileged women of the proposed
project regions have in critical economic condition because of their poverty
and unsustainable work to generate their income? Unemployment is one of
the major problems among the community, due to lack of right skills.
The socio & economic situation:
Women play an active role in day to day survival of the poorer communities
in these villages. They bear the double burden of work in the house and out
of the house. The low rate of literacy in the women of disadvantaged part of
the community. They do not have any other skill to earning. There is
increasing risk for scarcity of livelihood and employment in the region.
Need Assessment & Problem Statement:
Lack of skills training opportunities’ among young women is a common issue.
Often, due to socio norms and financial crisis, they are unable to undertake
vocational and skill trainings in the expensive training centers.
House wife women depend on the traditional work like housekeeping,
collecting fodder and fuel wood to cattle and to earn income. Some of them
do casual labor work but it produce poor earning which is not sufficient to
arrange meal twice [Link] impact on the health of women. These are the
women from Underprivileged community they have not any skill and nor
secure their livelihood.
However, due to lack of vocational training facilities and awareness, women
never offered these techniques to create their micro enterprises in a
profitable manner. Women mainly undertaking local workload to generate
daily meal, and they never get the opportunity to explore other skills and
markets beyond the existing one due to lack of skill and marketing support.
This programme would include directly to vocational and skills development
and will be reaching to the poor people with appropriate community
mobilization and capacity building.
Specific Object:
To enhance the capacity and employability of 200 disadvantaged adolescent
girls and woman,
To enhance the ensuring income generation opportunities of sustainable
livelihood to disadvantaged adolescent girls and woman through Tailoring,
Beauty Parlor and Toys making skill training,in Dhalwala, 14 Bigha and
Gumaniwal villages of Rishikesh of Uttarakhand.
To ensure ability for generate income to sustainable livelihood to the poor
adolescent girls,woman and youth throughthree skill training.

The following are some of the assumptions for successful implementation of
the project.
Target group might not participate actively in the project, so we have
arranged provisions of community mobilization to participate actively
target group.
Sustainable management of the program and timely monitoring and
evaluating is a focal part of this project, so proposed training program
will be conducted by the appropriate manpower.
Due to natural disaster’s affects in the target area proposed project will
be started appropriate work schedule at local level.
Economic and Social cultural sustainability:
The behavioral and attitudinal changes would brought by the project among
the local communities. Target group will empower actively. Women will come
together in a common platform to discuss their socio-culture problem
bringing changes in age old social habits. Project will significantly affect the
lives of the target group in their income generation activities. GSS will
continue to play an active role to facilitate the vocational training centre to
give better training. The project will build local capacities to increase
livelihood opportunities for women in the target communities. This project
will motivate the young women to start generate income. After the project
ending, all trainees will engage actively in income generating as well as self-
employability enterprises. They can support their family members in
education, health and livelihood development activities.
