Optics – Lens
Lens can be commonly found in optical instruments, such aas camera, telescope and
microscope. Lens form images by refraction. (air to glass then glass to air)
There are two kinds of lens
(1) Convex Lens (or called converging lens)
thickest at the middle
(2) Concaves Lens (or called diverging lens)
thickest at the edges
Structure of a lens
Optical centre is the center of the lens
Optical axis is prependicular to the optical axis
Focus/Focal Point is the point where rays parallel to principle
~ are converged after refraction
~ seem to diverge after refraction
Focal length is the distance between optical centre and focus
~ depends on the curvature of the lens
~ Thicker the lens , smaller the focal length
Remember the words highlighted!!!
