AN EXAMPLE

Rising sea levels, endangered species, overuse of plastics, extreme weather patterns, all these
concepts sound familiar, don’t they?. Well, in the last few years environmental concerns are
gaining importance among citizens but there is still a lot of confusion among the causes,
consequences and solutions when talking about this topic. So in this speech these 3 main points
will be tackled.

Let’s start having a look at the causes. Why have we reached this stage? Why are rivers polluted?
Why are some species under threat? Which are the reasons that explain global warming?
Definitely, human action. We use the car for everything, which gives off fumes and emissions
that are harmful to the planet. We consume meat in a sustainable way because the livestock
takes a lot of free land, which is not unlimited, and contributes to the greenhouse emissions. In
fact, meat consumptions is expected to double. By the same token factories and multinational
companies don’t make things easier, since industrial production also contributes to global
warming. Furthermore, the urban sprawl, which means the continuous expansion of urban
areas, also explains why pollution is reaching alarming rates.

All these actions are a key trigger of global warming and a greenhouse effect. On the other hand,
we have already seen an increase in extreme weather patterns such as floods, very strong winds
or droughts. Meanwhile, ice is melting, leading to rising levels and there are around a million
endangered species in the world.

So, now that we have already talked about the causes and consequences, let us talk about
solutions. We definitely should start by minimizing our carbon footprints so as to stop doing
things that send fumes and emissions to the atmosphere. Another viable solution could be
installing solar panels and other ways of renewable energies. ON the other hand, recycling is a
must and we should encourage everyone to do so. Finally, cutting down on meat consumption
and switching to a and plant based diet would be a step in the right direction.
