707 RCACS – FALL AIRCREW SURVIVAL FIELD TRAINING EXERCISE

SITUATION
1. One of the aims of the Air Cadet Moment is to introduce cadets to downed aircrew wilder-
ness survival. By participating in practical lessons on survival in an outdoor setting cadets will
develop confidence in their ability to use their surroundings to take care of themselves and
each other.

MISSION
2. Cadets and staff from 707 RCACS and 778 Banshee RCACS, will participate in a three-day field
training exercise (FTX) to validate training POs X90 (Aircrew Survival) Woodland trails com-
mencing from 1830 hrs on 17 May 24 to 1700 hrs 19 Oct 24.

GENERAL OUTLINE:

The exercise is an overnight event and will be conducted in Ten (10) Phases.

ing for the FTX including pertinent DND/CF poli-
cies on Safety, Environmental Stewardship, Har-
assment; and Personal Conduct.
Phase 5: Training 18-19 Oct 24 FTX training commences on arrival and is deliv-
ered in accordance with the schedule provided
in ANNEX C;
Phase 6: Tear Down 19 Oct 23 Cadets will de-camp, load squadron stores and
personal kit, and complete an environmental
sweep.
Phase 7: Debriefing 19 Oct 23 Rear Party returns supplies to Blackdown
store/Sqn store and returns vehicles

SERVICE SUPPORT

1. Dress. The dress for this activity shall be:


a) Cadets
i. Cadets are to wear the cadet field training uniform (FTU – olive combats, boots &
Tilley). Instructors are authorized to wear berets.
ii. If the FTU is not available, authorized to wear appropriate civilian attire. The black
and white uniform is not to be worn.
iii. The FTX is conducted entirely outdoors with varying temperatures and weather. Ca-
dets are strongly encouraged to dress in layers so that they can respond appropri-
ately to any changes in the weather and to their changing levels of physical activity
and exertion.
b) Adult Staff
i. DND personnel are to wear CADPAD.
ii. CI/CV are to wear appropriate civilian attire.
2. Transportation:

a) Advance Party – will travel to and from the training location via parental drop off
b) Cadets and Staff Deployment – staff and cadets will travel to the drop off at location lo-
cated at Woodland Trails Scout Canada 14919 Kennedy Rd, Whitchurch-Stouffville, ON
L4A 7X5 at based on the following distribution:
i. Advance party – 1630 hr to 1700 hr
ii. Seniors (instructors, Syndicate ICs and 2Ics) - 1700 hr to 1800 hrs
iii. level 4s and 3s without taskings - 1800 hrs to 1830 hrs
iv. level 2s and 1s - 1830 hrs to 1845 hrs

c) Cadets and Staff Dismissal – staff and cadets will leave from the training location via pa-
rental or guardian drop off at location located at Woodland Trails Scout Canada 14919
Kennedy Rd, Whitchurch-Stouffville, ON L4A 7X5 at based on the following distribu-
tion:
i. level 1s and 2s - 1700 hrs to 1730 hrs
ii. level 3s, 4s, and 5s - 1730 hrs to 1800 hrs

3. Rations & Feeding: DND/SSC will provide all rations for this activity as follows:
a) Ration plan: No meal will be provided on Friday May 17, 24, three meals will be provide
on Saturday May 18, 24, and two meals will be provided on Sunday May 19, 24
b) AdmO of each unit for identifying cadets who have dietary restrictions.

4. Water
a) There are ablution facilities on the footprint for cadets and staff to use that have pota-
ble water. In the field, a water buffalo will carry potable water that will fill jerry cans for
cadets to fill water bottles. PLEASE HAVE CADETS BRING WATER BOTTLES.

5. Equipment:
a) DND and 707/778 RCACS will provide all necessary equipment for this activity.
6. Personal Equipment:
a) Instructions details in the personal kit list.
b) Be advised that the Crown will not accept responsibility for lost or stolen personal items.
Cadets are cautioned to have their valuables clearly identified.

7. Accommodation:
a) Staff and Cadets will be using tents and staying in the grounds of Woodland Trails.
b) Staff and junior cadets will stay on footprints of Woodland Trails.
c) Genders will be divided into separate groups for the exercise.

8. Hygiene
a) Personal and environmental hygiene practices should be promoted all time during this
exercise.
b) Cadets will practice proper hand washing as required during the day and immediately
prior to meals.

9. Medications
a) Unit staff are responsible to secure and provide access to meds for their unit cadets
when required. Cadets who require medical attention in the field will be moved out via
a safety vehicle and taken to the appropriate venue. In an instance, this is the responsi-
bility of the cadet’s unit staff.

10. Smoking.
a) There will be no smoking permitted at this activity.

11. Visitors
a) Visitors, including parents and other spectators, are not permitted.

12. Medical & Emergency


a) First Aid: Minor injuries will be brought to the attention of the OPI and be handled by
First Aid trained personnel.
b) First-Aid is to be handled on the scene.
c) Personnel who are trained in First-Aid shall be identified on the day of the training and
assigned as required;
d) Emergency: Major injury response IAW the Emergency Response Plan
i. Emergency Medical assistance is located 23.5 km from Woodland Trails Scout Camp
Major injuries are to be brought to the immediate attention of the OIC of the Exer-
cise and transported via EMS or designated emergency vehicle transport to Steven-
son Memorial Hospital.

13. Restricted and Out of Bounds Areas a) Out of Bound Areas include:
a) All property outside of the red boxed perimeter is shown with a red hatch on the Site
Map ANNEX D.
14. Safety:

a) Briefing: As part of training, cadets will be briefed as to dress requirements and safety
protocol. This exercise will go ahead provided the weather is not so severe as to affect
the safety and welfare of the cadets. If necessary, however, cadets will be returned
home.
b) Suspending Activities: Any member conducting an activity is authorized to temporarily
suspend any activity for any reason in the interest of safety. The OIC will, as soon as
practicable, evaluate the situation and determine if the cancellation of the activity or ex-
ercise warranted.

IMPORTANT
• For your safety you WILL BE SENT HOME if you do not have the required items or in-
adequate/insufficient items
• ALL kit must be packed in a backpack sufficient for hiking. Sleeping bags are to be at-
tached to backpack. SUITCASES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE EXERCISE
• All cadets must label their kit with a visible label with your name (First, Last),
squadron number (707) and Gender (if you prefer not to say, you are not re-
quired to disclose: this is for logistic purposes so that kit will not be lost as
there will be 2 squadrons on this FTX
• If you cannot carry your own gear and travel a distance, you have packed too much.
• DO NOT PACK FOOD IN YOUR BELONGING, WE DO NOT WANT ANY UNINVITED ANI-
MALS
