REQUIREMENTS
System requirements Windows XP or later
Java 7 or later
MED does not work on Mac or Linux systems.
PREFACE
The software name MED is abbreviated from Maillefer e-
Documentation. MED is a technical documentation viewing software
which contains your machine or line customer documentation for a
specific project.
About this manual This manual provides you instructions for using MED. Please consult it
if you need help using the software.

BASIC USE
Launching MED If MED does not open automatically (Auto run) it can be launched
directly from your DVD or CD folder by double-clicking [Link], or
[Link] if you wish to run the 64-bit version.
MAIN SCREEN
Layout MED main screen is divided into five parts:
1. Document tree view
2. Document preview window
3. Document bill of materials window
4. Project and machine information window
5. Menu bar

Tree View In the tree view you can see the hierarchical structure of the line or
the machine with the associated technical documents. The tree view
can be expanded by pressing the small plus sign in front of the line or
machine name, or by double-clicking the names. Another way to
expand or collapse the tree view is by pressing the expand or collapse
buttons in the menu bar.
Expanding and collapsing the menu bar works only on the currently
selected level. It will not expand the whole structure unless the top
level is selected.
By clicking a document name you can preview the document (see
below), and by double-clicking a document name you can open the
document in PDF reader.

Document Preview A technical PDF document can be previewed in this window before
Window opening it in the PDF reader. A document can be opened by double-
clicking the document in the tree view, or by clicking the Open in PDF
reader button in the document preview window.
The preview is automatically updated if another document is selected
in the tree view.
If you select an Excel file or a ZIP package document in the tree view,
the text in the button above the preview will change to reflect the
document type. Clicking the button in this case opens the Excel file
or the ZIP package, if you have the required software installed on
your computer. There is no preview available for these document
types. Please note that some projects do not contain these file types
at all.

Bill of Materials The bill of materials for a technical document (assembly drawing,
Window piping drawing, installation drawing, hydraulics diagram or
pneumatics diagram) can be viewed in this window. If a document
“contains” parts they are automatically listed in the bill of materials
view. If a document does not contain any parts, the bill of materials
view remains empty. The view is automatically updated when a
document is selected in the tree view.
The bill of materials contains position number of the part in the
drawing, part number, quantity, description, possible spare part class
and possible associated documents. The spare part class is described
in the Search Tool section. The listed documents are documentation
for the individual parts. If there is an assembly drawing in the listed
document numbers, double-clicking the line will navigate to that
drawing in the document tree view, and the preview and the bill of
materials change immediately as well.

Project Information Project information is displayed in this window. Project ID indicates
Window identification number for whole project. Sub Project ID indicates the
machine ID number in the project. Sub Project Description indicates
the description for a selected machine. Customer name and
documentation creation date are also displayed here.
Menu Bar There are eight buttons in the menu bar:

SUB SCREENS
Search Tool You can search the MED database for documents or parts with the
search tool. This way you can narrow down the items which are
suitable for your specific needs.
Search tool can be accessed from the menu bar by clicking the
magnifying glass icon.
First select whether you want to search for documents, parts or spare
parts. Then type the search term into the text box and click Search.
Documents and parts can be searched by their number or description,
and documents additionally by their document class.
In spare part search you can select from the three spare part classes:
recommended, safety-related and wearing spare parts.

After clicking Search, or selecting the class for spare parts, the
search results are displayed in the table below.
You can access the documents and parts directly from the search tool
either by double-clicking a row in the result window or by selecting a
row and then clicking the Go to selected document button. This
makes MED highlight the row where the selected document is in the
tree view. The document preview and the possible bill of materials
are displayed as well.
There is also an option to export search results to a text file. The
exported data can e.g. be used as a purchasing list for getting new
spare parts. Check the desired items in the Export column and click
Export checked items to text file. The data on the selected lines is
written to a text file in C:\Temp folder on your hard disk, and the file
is opened in Notepad for viewing.

By clicking the Close button you can exit the search tool.
Print Tool You can print out selected documents, their bills of materials and a
table of contents with the print tool.
The print tool can be accessed from the menu bar by clicking the
printer icon.
The print tool window is divided into three sections:
1. Document list
2. Document type selector
3. Print type selector

Document list Every document under the selected position in the tree view is listed
in the document listing. It is important to understand that the
document list in print tool depends on what was selected in the tree
view. This means that if you have a sub category active (highlighted)
in the tree view, the rest of the machines or line documents will not
be listed in the print tool.

If you want to print out the documentation for a whole machine,
make sure that machine level was selected in the tree view.
Document type selector In the document type selector, documents can be selected either by
their group, category or manually. Documents are divided typically
into four groups: general, mechanics, electrics, and parts and
components. With document group selection you can select or
deselect document groups to be printed.
When association category selections are used, the document group
selection options are grayed out (and vice versa). This selection type
is based on classification where the document should be used. For
example if your operator team needs machine documents, which are
important or related to operating the machine, then association
category Operating should be selected.
It is possible to select manually documents for printing even when
the selection types are used. Then all the selections types at
document type selector are grayed out. This indicates that selection
is in manual mode and type selector selections are not valid any
more.

If your project contains documents in another language besides
English, a language selector will also be displayed. Initially the Both
languages option is selected. By selecting the non-English language
option, only documents of that language will remain selected.
However, the English language documents only option includes
drawings and other documents that do not have a language defined.
If the document list contains Excel or ZIP documents, the document
type selector will display a warning since these document types
cannot be printed from MED. However, they will be displayed in the
table of contents (see below) if you choose to print it.
If you wish to print Excel files, please open them with appropriate
software and print from there. If you wish to print the contents of a
ZIP package, please unzip the files first and then manually print any
individual documents you want with appropriate software. The
documents are located in “line XXXX/documents” folder, where XXXX
is your project ID.
Print type selector In the print type selector you can select what parts of the documents
to print.
Include table of contents = Includes a list of printed document titles
Table of contents only = Prints only the list of selected
document titles

Selected documents = Prints only the selected documents,
without part lists
Selected documents with = Prints the documents and their bills of
bills of materials materials
Bills of materials only = Prints only the bills of materials of
the selected documents
If the options containing bills of materials are grayed out, the current
document list does not contain any of those.
Include table of contents selection can be turned on or off.
Printer Options Window When the Print button is clicked a printer options window is opened.
In this window you can select printer, change the printing
preferences and select the number of copies.

The printing preferences window and its settings will vary depending
on your printer.
Settings With the settings tool you can change the date format. You can
access the setting by clicking the cogwheel icon in the menu bar. The
date format is mainly used in printing documents.

User Manual This selection opens this user manual.
About This selection opens the information screen for MED. Through this
window you can also view the End User License Agreement (EULA).
Exit This selection closes MED.
