Examining the Impact of Pedagogy on Student Application of
Learning: Acquiring, Sharing, and Using Knowledge for
Organizational Decision Making.
RESEARCHERS: Alice C. Stewart, Jacqueline Williams, Karen
Smith-Gratto, Sylvia Sloan Black, Betty Turner Kane
FINDINGS: The study discovered that focusing on learning
methods that emphasize concepts and real world application
improved information retention rates significantly compared to
using game based computer simulations that prioritize
experiential and social interactions which enhanced decision
making quality and promoted shared understanding among
participants This indicates that experiential learning strategies
encouraged a more profound comprehension and practical
utilization of acquired knowledge.
PROBLEM: The research delves into how teaching methods.
Namely a technical learning model and an experiential learning
model. Impact students’ capacity to gain and utilize knowledge
in practical decision making situations within organizations, in
the real world.
RECOMMENDATION: The study suggests that teachers should
think about integrating hands on learning methods like game
based simulations into their lesson plans to improve students’
capacity to use information in real world situations effectively.
This strategy could be especially helpful in fostering thinking,
issue solving and teamwork abilities, which are crucial, for
thriving in todays intricate and ever changing work
environments.
RECOMMENDATION: The study recommends educators
consider using experiential learning strategies like game-based
simulations in their curriculum to improve students' ability to
transfer knowledge into practice. The experiential learning
strategies may also be particularly valuable to develop critical
thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative skills needed for
success in today's complex and dynamic work environments.
REFLECTION: This research examines the relationship between
different teaching methods (pedagogy) and how students
apply their learning in real-world organizational settings. It
focuses on understanding how students acquire, share, and
utilize knowledge to make informed decisions within
organizations. The study aims to shed light on the
effectiveness of various pedagogical approaches in fostering
these critical skills, ultimately contributing to the development
of well-equipped future organizational leaders.
