NURSE LISA enters, smiling brightly but with an edge.
NURSE LISA: (cheerful) Morning, James! Time to check on yuh. How yuh feeling?
JAMES: (nervously) Morning, Nurse. Mi feel some pain and mi just want fi rest a likkle.
NURSE LISA's smile fades as she approaches the bed with a heavy hand.
NURSE LISA: (sharply) Rest? Yuh need fi get up and move! (she roughly adjusts his blanket, making
him flinch)
JAMES: (wincing) Ouch! Please, mi just need some time.
NURSE LISA: (leaning in close) Listen, don’t make dis harder than it needs to be. (her tone
threatening)
(Scene 2: Outside the patient room)
SUPERVISOR AMY walks by, glancing in.
SUPERVISOR AMY: (calling out) Lisa, everything alright in there?
NURSE LISA quickly brightens her demeanor.
NURSE LISA: (smiling) Yes, Supervisor! Just helping James get back on his feet!
SUPERVISOR AMY nods and continues down the hall.
(Scene 3: Inside the patient room)
Once alone, JAMES looks distressed.
JAMES: (softly) Nurse, please don’t do dat. Mi can’t take di pain.
NURSE LISA snaps, grabbing his arm too tightly.
NURSE LISA: (coldly) Stop being a baby. Dis is what yuh need to get better.
JAMES stares at her in shock, trying to pull away.
JAMES: (voice shaking) Yuh can’t treat mi like dis!
NURSE LISA glares at him, her facade slipping.
(Scene 4: The confrontation)
KAREN enters the room, sensing something is wrong.
KAREN: (immediately) Wah gwan? James, yuh alright?
She sees NURSE LISA’s grip on JAMES and her expression hardens.
KAREN: (angrily) Let go a him! Wah yuh a do?
NURSE LISA quickly releases JAMES but puts on a fake smile.
NURSE LISA: (innocently) Just making sure he’s following his recovery plan.
KAREN: (to JAMES) Mi know something wrong. Talk to mi, please.
JAMES: (tears in his eyes) She a hurt mi, Karen.
KAREN turns to NURSE LISA, furious.
KAREN: Yu can’t treat patients like dis!
(Scene 5: The resolution)
DR. SMITH enters the room, sensing the tension.
DR. SMITH: (noticing the atmosphere) What’s going on here?
KAREN steps forward, pointing at NURSE LISA.
KAREN: Mi just see di way she a treat mi bruddah!
NURSE LISA’s expression shifts to defensive.
NURSE LISA: (fake concern) I’m just trying to help him!
DR. SMITH: (firmly) No one should feel unsafe in our care. James, do you feel threatened?
JAMES nods.
DR. SMITH’s face hardens as he looks at NURSE LISA.
DR. SMITH: (to NURSE LISA) We need to have a serious discussion about your conduct.
SUPERVISOR AMY returns, catching the tail end of the conversation.
SUPERVISOR AMY: (confused) What’s happening?
KAREN speaks up, passionately defending her brother.
KAREN: We need to report this! Dis is abuse!
(Scene 6: Closing)
The tension begins to lift as JAMES feels supported.
DR. SMITH: (nodding) We’ll make sure you’re safe, James. You won’t have to worry anymore.
KAREN hugs JAMES, a protective smile on her face.
KAREN: (softly) Yu a go be okay now, mi promise.
