SIZE:
The snail measures 9cm (3.5 inches) long, 7cm (2.75 inches) tall

DIFFICULTY LEVEL:

MATERIALS & TOOLS:


Below are list of materials used to make the snail in the photo.
4 ply cotton yarn in pink (COLOUR 1) and rainbow (COLOUR 2)
Lace yarn in black and white (for the eyes)
2.5mm crochet hook
1mm crochet hook
Toy stuffing
Yarn needle, sewing needle
Scissors

ABBREVIATIONS:
st(s) = stitch(es)
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
inc = increase (2 sc in one stitch)
dec = decrease (2 sc together)
(...) = repeat the instructions in the brackets the given number of times [...] = total number of stitches

SHELL
*with Colour 1 and 2.5mm hook
Round 1: 6 sc in magic circle [6]
Round 2: (inc) x 6 [12]
Round 3: (sc in next st, inc) x 6 [18]
Round 4: (inc, sc in next 2 sts) x 6, ch 3 and turn [24]
Change to colour 2
Round 5: dc in next 24 sts, ch 3 and turn [24]
Round 6: dc in next 24 sts, sl st in first ch 3, ch 1 [24]
Change to colour 1
Round 7: working in the round, sl st in next 24 sts [24]
Round 8: (dec, sc in next 2 sts) x 6, ch 3 and turn [18]
Change to colour 2
Round 9: dc in next 18 sts, ch 3 and turn [18]
Round 10: dc in next 18 sts, sl st in first ch 3, ch 1[18]
Change to colour 1
Round 11: working in the round, sl st in next 18 sts [18]
Round 12: (dec sc in next st) x 6, ch 3 and turn [12]
*start stuffing with fibrefill
Change to colour 2
Round 13: dc in next 12 sts, ch 3 and turn [12]

Change to colour 1 Step 1: Using the yarn needle and yarn tail, pick up the front loops
Round 15: working in the round, sl st in next 12 sts [12] Step 2: Pull the yarn tail and close the opening
Round 16: (dec) x 6 [6] Step 3: Thread the yarn tail to the opening on the side and sew it
Leave long tail for sewing and fasten off. closed. *Squash the side with the opening together so the shell ends
up with a bit of a lean.
Step 4: Finished shell. Weave the tail and fasten off.

BODY
*with Colour 1 and 2.5mm hook
Round 1: 6 sc in magic circle [6]
Round 2: (inc) x 6 [12]
Round 3-6: sc in all 12 sts [12]
*stuff the head only, leave rest of body flat.
Round 7: (dec, sc in next 2 sts) x 3 [9]
Round 8-22: sc in all 9 sts [9]
Round 23: (dec) x 4, sc in next st [5]
Leave a tail for weaving and fasten off.

ANTENNAE
*with Colour 1 and 2.5mm hook
Start with a ch 5.
Round 1: 4 sc in second ch from hook, sl st in next 3 ch spaces [4]
Leave a tail for sewing and fasten off.

EYES
*with WHITE lace yarn and 1mm hook
Round 1: 10 sc in magic circle [10]
Leave a long tail for sewing and fasten off.

*with BLACK lace yarn and 1mm hook


Round 1: 6 sc in magic circle [6]
Leave a long tail for sewing and fasten off.
