Individual Assignment -100% of weightage
Task 1
A computer hardware company has a help system on its website. The current system uses a chat screen,
where a customer can interact with a human customer service agent by typing and reading messages.
The company is considering a change to the help system so that the initial contact
with a customer is dealt with by an expert system that includes a chatbot.
The Chabot would enable a customer to have a text-based conversation with the expert system using a
chat screen. The expert system would try to diagnose a customer’s hardware problem and suggest a
solution.
A human customer service agent would only get involved if the system cannot solve the problem.
Evaluate the use of the system being considered.
Your answer should include:
• How this system might work
• The advantages and disadvantages of replacing the current system with the system being considered
• A conclusion recommending whether the company should make the change.
(60 marks)
Task 2
A research organization has digital cameras installed at a site that attracts large numbers of animals.
Each camera is paired with a motion detector and the camera is triggered if anything moves into its field
of view.
The organization has thousands of photographs and needs to examine all of them to identify the animals.
The organization does not have enough staff to perform this task manually and wants to use machine
learning instead. It is considering using either supervised learning (with a labelled dataset) or
unsupervised learning (with an unknown dataset).
Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the use of the two types of machine learning in this
context. Your answer should include a justified recommendation of the type of machine learning the
organization should use.
(40 marks)
Task 3
Many countries use big data methods to implement electronic health records (EHRs) for their citizens.
Each citizen has their own EHR. The EHR can include:
• medical history
• outcomes of tests
• diagnoses
• Demographic information such as age, sex, etc.
• family medical history.
The data is stored in a data warehouse and is analyzed to provide information for decision making.
Governments say there is a net benefit to citizens’ welfare and to the country from using EHRs.
Healthcare providers say that patient care and medical outcomes are improved. Evaluate the use of data
analytics to plan and improve healthcare.
Your answer could include:
a discussion of the types of data analytics, with relevant examples of how they can be used to plan and
improve healthcare:
• descriptive
• prescriptive
• predictive
an outline of the common tool functions that might be used, such as natural language search or text analysis
• A conclusion about how well data analytics will deliver the desired improvements.
Marking Criteria: Total Marks 100
Task 1 -Total Marks 35
Marks Level Description
0_10 1 Demonstrates limited knowledge and understanding, some of which may be
inaccurate. Applies understanding with limited coherence to produce a response
that lacks development. Demonstrates limited awareness of competing arguments.
Conclusion, if present, is generic or unsupported.
11_20 2 Demonstrates knowledge and understanding, which is mostly relevant and may
include some inaccuracies. Applies understanding to make some coherent
connections and a partially developed response. Demonstrates some awareness of
competing arguments, but this may be unbalanced, and partially supports
conclusion with evidence.
21_35 3 Demonstrates accurate and relevant knowledge and understanding throughout.
Applies understanding coherently to produce a fully developed response.
Demonstrates an awareness of competing arguments and supports conclusion with
evidence

Task 3 -Total Marks 30
Marks Level Description
10 1 Analysis is flawed or superficial, containing simple statements that show limited
understanding of the subject matter. Solution may contain some aspects that are
appropriate, but is generally ineffective.
20 2 Analysis is sound, containing minor inaccuracies or omissions, showing some
understanding of the given issue. Solution is workable but may have minor issues.
30 3 Analysis is sound and developed, containing ideas that are linked together in a
fluent and logical way, showing a thorough understanding of the given issue.
Solution is appropriate and workable
