Combustion

Combustion is burning of fuel, For example wood. humans have used it for thousands of years
to keep warm and to cook food
When the fuel such as wood is set on fire the carbon dioxide it contains combines with the
oxygen in the air to produce carbon dioxide and water the word equation for this reaction is
Fuel + oxygen → Carbon dioxide + water

Carbon dioxide, the greenhouse gas.

Carbon dioxide is classified as a greenhouse gas because carbon dioxide in the

atmosphere acts. Like glass in a greenhouse. It allows heat energy from the To travel
through Them. And reach the surface of the earth. But they prevent. Heat energy
radiating from the surface of the Earth. From passing back Out into space. So the heat
energy is trapped. The heat energy remains in the atmosphere. Creating natural
Warmth In the earth.
The natural warmth of the earth. Helps different species of animals and plants to
develop and keep the planet habitable. Without the natural greenhouse effect. Humans,
animals and plants. Wouldn't be able to live on the Earth.

Climate change

Climate is the average weather experienced at a particular area over a long period of
time.

Different parts of the world have different climates these are called climate zones.
Climates can range from the hottest to the coldest The the hottest climate zones are
found closest to the equator.
Different climates depend upon certain features of the atmosphere these features
include:temperature, precipitation, humidity. Such factors can affect the different types
of plants and animals that can live there and had been there for thousands of years

Why might climate be changing?

When the Industrial Revolution occurred , many factories were built to provide and
manufacturers a wide variety of goods and these factories needed to provide power for
the machines . Coal was originally used to provide power and coal releases carbon
dioxide
As more coal burned more carbon dioxide was released into the atmosphere, eventually
people began using oil and it was burned more releasing higher amounts of carbon
dioxide as the carbon dioxide entered the atmosphere
When scientists began measuring the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere they
found out it increases rapidly over the years and today it is continuously increasing
which led to increases in the global temperature

The effects of climate change

The term climate change describes the difference in measurements of temperature,

humidity and precipitation over a long period period of time
The increases in these measurement led to the earth becoming warmer this process is
described by the term global warming

Sea level change

As the temperature rises due to the effect of global warming ice on

mountains glaciers melts and the water flows into rivers oceans and
seas this causes sea levels to rise and low lying islands will
eventually flood

Extra water in the atmosphere

Rising temperatures cause the rate of evaporation increases which

means more that the air holds water it disrupts the flow of air
around the planet

In some places in can cause really heavy rain which means more
floods that can destroy the land
Extreme weather events

A hurricane is an example of an extreme weather effects hurricanes

form over the water of warm seas as temperatures rise due to
global warming more water evaporates to form the hurricane
hurricane cause floods
Events such as hurricanes are dangerous and cause damage and
are a threat to life
