Multimedia Information

A. Visual Information and Media - are symbols, pictures, icons, signs and others that communicates with
one’s sense of sight. Visuals are important because they easily attract attention and engage a wide audience.
Effective visuals can capture interest and convey messages quickly, making them a powerful tool in
communication.

Advantages of Visual Information:

0
1. Fast - Visual media can convey information quickly. Our brains process visuals much faster than text,

8
allowing viewers to grasp concepts and emotions almost instantaneously. This speed can be crucial
in situations where quick understanding is essential, such as in advertising or news reporting.

0
2. Keep in Memory Longer - Visual content tends to be more memorable than text alone. The use of

T
images, colors, and motion engages multiple senses, making it easier for people to recall information

I
later.

L
3. Influence - Visual media can evoke strong emotions and responses, making them highly persuasive.

D
Whether through compelling imagery or storytelling, visuals can shape opinions and motivate action
more effectively than text alone.

E
4. Effective - Visuals can simplify complex information, making it more accessible. Infographics, charts,
and diagrams help break down data, enabling audiences to understand key messages quickly and

M
clearly.
5. Have Clear Visions - Visual media often provide a concrete representation of ideas, making abstract
concepts more tangible. This clarity helps viewers visualize and comprehend the content better,
fostering a deeper understanding.
6. Easy to Connect - Visuals create a universal language that transcends barriers. People can relate to
images and videos, regardless of language or cultural differences, facilitating connections and
engagement with diverse audiences.

Disadvantages of Visual Information:

1. Needs time and effort - Creating high-quality visual media often requires significant time and resources.
This includes planning, designing, and editing, which can be a barrier for individuals or organizations
with limited budgets or tight deadlines.

2. Not detailed information - Visual media can sometimes oversimplify complex subjects, leaving out
important details. While visuals are effective for conveying broad ideas, they may lack the depth
necessary for thorough understanding, which can be crucial in contexts like academic or technical
communication.
3. Higher Priced - Producing visual content, especially high-quality videos or graphics, can be more
expensive than text-based formats. Costs associated with equipment, software, and professional
services can add up, making it less accessible for some creators or organizations.

T080Visual Message Design

1. Consistency - the agreement on the papers, margins, styles, colors, etc.
2. Balance - categorize the graphics of the text to create harmony.

I
3. Restraint - using simplicity and moderation to enhance clarity and effectiveness.

EDL Principles of Design

1. Balance - Achieving visual stability through symmetrical or asymmetrical arrangements.
2. Contrast - Highlighting differences in color, size, or shape to create emphasis and interest.

M
3. Emphasis - Focusing attention on a specific element to convey importance.
4. Movement - Guiding the viewer’s eye through the design in a deliberate way.
5. Pattern - Repeating elements to create rhythm and unity within the design.
6. Repetition - Reinforcing visual identity by repeating styles or motifs.
7. Proximity - Grouping related elements to create relationships and improve organization.
8. White Space - Using empty space effectively to enhance readability and focus on content.

B. Audio Information and Media - Audio is hearing a sound that comes from a broadcasted sound (either
live or recorded). It enhances communication by engaging audiences, evoking emotions, aiding memory
retention, and offering versatility across various platforms.

Types of Audio Media

1. Radio Broadcast- A broadcaster speaks into a microphone live.
2. Recording- Some radio shows record their audio already and play it live via radio.

Advantages of Audio Media

1. Audible Design - Audio media allows for the use of sound effects, music, and voice modulation, creating
an immersive listening experience that can enhance storytelling and engagement.. It also aids with

0
people who are nonreaders.

8
2. Imagination Stimulation - Unlike visual media, audio encourages listeners to use their imagination, as
they visualize scenarios and characters based on the sounds they hear, fostering creativity and

0
personal interpretation.

T
3. Cost-Effective - Producing audio content, such as podcasts or voiceovers, can often be less expensive

I
than video production. Many basic recording tools are readily available and inexpensive, allowing

L
creators to produce quality content on a budget.

D
4. User-Friendly - Producing audio content, such as podcasts or voiceovers, can often be less expensive
than video production. Many basic recording tools are readily available and inexpensive, allowing

E
creators to produce quality content on a budget.

M
Analog Vs. Digital
Analog audio captures sound in a continuous wave format, offering a warm, rich quality but is
prone to wear and interference. In contrast, digital audio converts sound into binary code, providing
precise reproduction, portability, and ease of editing while being less susceptible to quality loss.

C. Motion Information and Media - Motion media is a form of media that has the visual appearance of a
moving text, picture and graphics on a display where its main purpose is to communicate in more and different
ways. They enhance storytelling by adding visual dynamics that engage viewers and evoke emotions. Motion
graphics and video content can simplify complex ideas, making them more accessible and easier to
understand. Motion media also allows for a more immersive experience, as movement can guide the audience's
focus and create a sense of realism.

Different Motion Media Formats

1. Film - also known as Motion Pictures, it is a series of still pictures when it is shown in a screen. It
creates an illusion that viewers will perceive a continuous motion between separate objects that is
shown rapidly. This illusion is called Phi phenomenon it was defined by Max Wertheirmer in
the early 1912.
(Ex. Short Film, Documentary Film, Animation)

0
2. Motion Pictures in TV - Television is a Telecommunication Apparatus that is used to for receiving

8
moving images and sounds that can be black-and-white or colored with sound or without sounds.
(Ex. Drama, Reality Shows, Game Shows, Talk Shows, News)

LIT0 3. Interactive Video - a kind of media that a person can intercept and can do things with the videos. A user
can click a portion of the video that is clickable and if the user clicks that certain portion of the
video it will do something depending on the person who created that interactive video.

D
a. Customizable Interactive videos - users are able to adjust or change some variables on the video
and then play it.

E
b. Conversational Interactive videos - the video is somehow talking to the person who is watching.
This person can reply to the video just like they are talking.

M 4. Others
a. Live Streaming - allows a user to broadcast live feeds that people can see. Best example is Skype.
b. YouTube - is a video hosting website where people can upload videos that allow other
people to view it
Advantages of Motion Media
Enhance Perception
Aids Comprehension
Disadvantages of Motion Media
Potential for Misrepresentation
Higher Costs
Enables Safe Observation
Reinforce Learning
Fosters Cultural Awareness
Facilitates Dialogue
