Demonstratives
Demonstratives are words used to point out specific things or people.
The four main demonstratives in English are this, that, these, and those.
They help show whether something is near or far, and whether it’s
singular or plural.
- This – used for one thing that is close.
Example: This book is interesting. (The book is near you.)
- That – used for one thing that is far.
Example: That house is very big. (The house is far from you.)
- These – used for more than one thing that is close.
Example: These shoes are new. (The shoes are near you.)
- Those – used for more than one thing that is far.
Example: Those trees are tall. (The trees are far from you.)
So, "this" and "these" refer to things that are near, while "that" and
"those" refer to things that are far.
Ex:-
