EFFECTS OF PANDEMIC ON THE NUMERACY SKILLS IN MODULAR DISTANCE
LEARNING
METHODOLOGY
As it is indicated in the title, this chapter includes the research methodology of
the dissertation. In more details, in this part the author outlines the research design, research, respondents
and sampling technique/s, instruments, research procedures, the ethical considerations and statistical
treatment of data that will be used to conduct the study.
A. DESIGN
A quantitative study was conducted to ensure that the dissertation's goals were met. This study
involved a quantitative design to enhance the research and make the study reliable and valid.
B. RESPONDENTS AND SAMPLING TECHNIQUE/S
For the purpose of identifying and analyzing the impact of the pandemic on numeracy skill in
modular distance learning, convenient and purposeful sampling was employed in the quantitative
component. This method, which falls under the category of non-probability sampling techniques, selects
sample members based on their knowledge, relationships, and expertise in a study topic (Freedman et
al., 2007). The respondent were 30 - Mathematics teacher, broken down to 15 males and 15 females,
with ages 21- 30 and older from last mile schools in Zamboanga City.
C. INSTRUMENT
The researchers made and utilized an original tool, questionnaire checklist, to collect the data for
this study. The draft of the questionnaire has 4 categories and 14 statements were made and were
included in the Likert Scale Survey Questionnaire. The research that was use in this study was
meticulously analyzed by professionals in the field of research, both critically examined and validated.
After the instrument had been validated in terms of its reliability, the researcher distributed or
administered the questionnaire to Mathematic teachers from Zamboanga City's last mile schools via
Google Forms/in person.
D. DATA GATHERING
Making a request letter is the first thing to do before beginning the actual testing. With utmost
respect for the Data Privacy Act, the researchers ethically sought the respondents' consent before asking
them to complete the survey. Each participant signed a statement of consent indicating their willingness
to participate in the study. The researcher gets the request letter once it has been approved. The survey
and the guiding questions were created using a Google Form/printed out, and then distributed online or
personally with phone follow-ups. Before the survey and the guided questions were conducted,
instructions were given to the respondents. They were questioned about whether they had
comprehended the directions and given the opportunity to qualify by asking questions. The survey's
instruments were distributed. A week later, all results were obtained.
E. ETHICS
Certain ethical concerns were raised in the current investigation. As previously stated, all
participants reported their written agreement of their participation in the research via a signed Consent
and Briefing Letter. Participants were properly informed of the study's objective and reassured that the
data collected would be kept strictly confidential and used exclusively for the aims of the specific
research and only for academic purposes. There will be no harm that could threaten the respondents for
the course of the study.
F. DATA ANALYSIS
Responses to the questionnaire by Mathematics teachers were statistically analyzed through
descriptive statistic. The frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation, and t-test were used to
examine the data.
