RATIONALE
DepEd Order No. 11, s. 2017 is an official document issued by the Department of
Education (DepEd) in the Philippines that aims to strengthen the reading skills of students in
grades 1 to 3 through the implementation of a Reading Program. The order outlines the
objectives, strategies, and activities of the program, as well as the roles and responsibilities of
various stakeholders, such as teachers, parents, and community partners. The program is
designed to promote a love for reading, enhance students' reading fluency, comprehension, and
vocabulary, and prepare them for the national reading assessment. The DepEd Order also
provides guidelines for the selection, acquisition, and use of reading materials, as well as the
monitoring and evaluation of the program's effectiveness.
The Reading Program in the Philippines is an initiative aimed at improving the reading
skills of students in grades 1 to 3. It is a component of the K to 12 Basic Education Program
implemented by the Department of Education (DepEd). The program aims to promote a love for
reading among students and enhance their reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. A
reading corner at home is an essential component of a child's education and development. It
encourages reading, promotes literacy, fosters imagination, develops critical thinking skills,
provides a quiet space, encourages family bonding, promotes self-reflection, and provides a
space for relaxation.
Therefore, Buko-Buko Elementary School will implement Basahanan sang Bay Reading
Program. Every learner together with their parents are encourage to put-up reading nook in their
homes.
