The Northern Plains are a large, flat area in
northern Indi, known for their rich and
fertile soil. This region is important because
it produces a lot of the country’s food.
Rivers like the Ganges and Yamuna flow
through the plains, bringing water that
helps farmers grow crops like rice, wheat
and sugarcane.
The weather in the Northern Plains changes
with the seasons. Summers can be very hot,
while winters can be quite cold. These
changes affect what farmers can grow at
different times of the year. During the
monsoon season, heavy rains can
sometimes cause flooding, while other
stimes. There may not be enough water for
crops.

of the alluvial soil, which is rich in
moisture and minerals. The silt
deposited by the Ganga river and its
tributaries makes the plain fertile.
The Northern Plains are known as the
"Rice Bowl of India" because most
of the country's rice is grown there. Other
crops grown in the region include wheat,
pulses, jute, cotton, sugar cane, and oil
seeds.
