ARCHITECTURAL CASE STUDY REPORT

PROJECT TITLE: SWIMMING POOL

CASE STUDY DATE: JULY 11, 2024
PROJECT LOCATION: GHADGE NAGAR, NASHIK ROAD, NASHIK, MAHARASHTRA.

1. INTRODUCTION

 PROJECT OVERVIEW: The public swimming pool, located at Nashik Road,

serves as a community hub with various pools designed for different
activities. The facility includes an Olympic pool, warmup pool, diving pool,
kids pool, and women pool, each designed to meet specific standards and
user needs.

 OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this visit was to study the design, dimensions,
and building services of various types of pools and to understand the
intricacies involved in their construction and maintenance.

2. CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS

• SITE CONTEXT: The swimming pool complex is situated in Ghadge Nagar,

Nashik Road, a suburban area of Nashik, Maharashtra. The surrounding
environment is a mix of residential and commercial buildings, providing easy
access for the community. The landscape includes well-maintained greenery
around the complex, contributing to a pleasant atmosphere. Nashik
experiences a tropical climate with hot summers, moderate monsoons, and
mild winters, which influences the pool usage patterns and maintenance
schedules.
JIJAUMATA TARAN TALAV, NASHIK ROAD.

3. DESIGN CONCEPTS

 ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPT: The design philosophy centres around creating a

multifunctional recreational space that caters to different age groups and skill
levels. The layout ensures a seamless flow between the various pools,
enhancing user experience.
 SPATIAL ORGANIZATION: Spaces are organized to provide clear separation
between different pool types while maintaining visual connectivity. The
Olympic pool is centrally located, with the lap pool and exercise pool adjacent.
The kids' pool and diving pool are positioned in areas that ensure safety and
supervision.
 AESTHETIC APPROACH: The design employs clean lines and modern
aesthetics with a focus on natural light and ventilation. The use of glass and
open spaces enhances the visual appeal and creates an inviting environment.

4. ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES

 MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION: The primary materials used include

reinforced concrete for pool structures, stainless steel for railings and fittings.
These materials were selected for their durability and ability to withstand a
humid environment.
 STRUCTURAL SYSTEM: The pools are constructed using a monolithic
reinforced concrete structure, providing strength and stability.
 SUSTAINABILITY FEATURES: Sustainable strategies include the use of solar
panels for heating pool water, rainwater harvesting systems, and energy-
efficient lighting.

5. USER EXPERIENCE
• FUNCTIONALITY: The design successfully meets functional requirements by
providing distinct areas for different activities. The layout ensures easy
navigation and access to amenities.

• COMFORT AND WELL-BEING: User comfort is enhanced through shaded

seating areas, and clean, well-maintained facilities. Safety measures such as
non-slip surfaces and lifeguard stations contribute to user well-being.

 ACCESSIBILITY: The facility is designed with accessibility in mind, featuring

ramps, wide pathways, and accessible changing rooms to accommodate users
with disabilities.

FILTRATION PLANT

The pool complex features a filtration plant, ensuring clean and safe water across all
pools. The filtration system includes:

1. HIGH-EFFICIENCY PUMPS: These pumps ensure constant water circulation, crucial

for maintaining water quality and clarity.

2. SAND FILTERS: Sand filters trap impurities, providing a first layer of cleaning by
removing debris and particulate matter.

3. CHEMICAL DOSING SYSTEMS: Automated systems that maintain the correct pH

and chlorine levels, ensuring the water is hygienic and safe for users.
4. BALANCING TANK: The balancing tank plays a critical role in managing the water
levels within the pool system, compensating for water loss due to evaporation,
backwashing, and swimmer activity. This ensures consistent water levels and helps
in maintaining the overall efficiency of the filtration system.
