OUR 10 GOLDEN RULES
“For your Health and Wellbeing”
1. NO ALCOHOL & DRUGS
Never operate any mobile or fix plant equipment whilst under the influence of
alcohol or drugs.
2. LICENSED TO OPERATE
Never operate any mobile equipment, fixed plant or tool unless specifically
licensed, trained or properly authorised to do so.
3. PERMIT TO WORK
Never commence work without first conducting an appropriate level of risk
assessment and obtaining appropriate work permits.
4. CONFINED SPACES
Never enter a designated confined space unless properly authorised to do so.
5. PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT
Never deliberately cause harm to the environment or breach any conditions
under the Environmental Management Plan or associated permit.
6. SAFETY DEVICES, BARRIERS & PPE
Never remove or tamper with any safety devices or barriers without the proper
permit, isolation or authorisation.
7. ISOLATION & LOCKOUT
Never maintain any equipment before first rendering it safe by isolation. Never
remove, modify or bypass a Safety Tag or Lock unless licensed, trained or properly
authorised to do so.
8. WORKING AT HEIGHTS
Never work at heights greater than 1.8 meters unless either the work area is fully
guarded to prevent falls or appropriate personal fall protection is worn.
9. HARASSMENT, DISCRIMINATION & BULLYING
Never subject any person to any form of Harassment, Discrimination or Bullying.
10. CHEMICAL & HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES
Never handle chemical or hazardous substances unless specifically trained or
authorised to do so.

ALWAYS
Self-test BEFORE you drive a vehicle to your workplace and
before entering the workplace.
Inform your supervisor if you are taking medication.
Inform your supervisor or a manager if you see or suspect a case
of alcohol or drug abuse.
NEVER
Never come to work under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Never bring alcohol or drugs into the workplace or Company
vehicles.
Never use, sell or distribute narcotic substances.
FOR SUPERVISORS (or people responsible for the work)
Only assign tasks to people who are fit to work.
Stop work if you believe someone is under the influence of
alcohol and/or drugs.
Ensure that an alcohol or drug test is conducted if you suspect
alcohol or drug use on site.
Confidentially work with staff to resolve alcohol and drug issues
before they impact on job performance.

2. LICENSED TO OPERATE
Never operate any mobile equipment, fixed plant
or tool unless specifically licensed, trained or
properly authorised to do so.
ALWAYS
Only operate mobile equipment, fixed plant and tools if you are
licensed, trained and authorised to do so.
Ensure that your licenses or permits are valid and current.
Complete a pre-start inspection on mobile equipment, fixed
plant and tools BEFORE commencing work.
Only operate mobile equipment in authorised areas.
Report any deviation to your supervisor.
NEVER
Never operate equipment, machinery or tools if you are not
authorised.
FOR SUPERVISORS (or people responsible for the work)
Only assign licensed and competent staff to operate mobile
equipment.
Stop work if you believe it is not safe.

3. PERMIT TO WORK (PTW)
Never commence work without first conducting
an appropriate level of risk assessment and
obtaining appropriate work permits.
ALWAYS
Ensure that all non-routine or high risk activity conducted in the
workplace is covered by the appropriate permit to work and risk
assessment.
Ensure that the permit applicant accepts all responsibilities
associated with the safe execution of works for which the permit is
issued.
Ensure that the permit is only valid for the period specified and
only while conditions remain unchanged.
NEVER
Never accept a PTW as just a paper exercise.
FOR SUPERVISORS (or people responsible for the work)
Ensure clear communication of the roles and responsibilities of
personnel involved in PTW processes .
Ensure clear communication of the types of work requiring a PTW.
Ensure that any other area of operations that may be impacted by
the activity of a permit is notified prior to the work commencing.
Be satisfied that the applicant has met all the requirements of this
permit and understands fully their responsibilities.
Obtain signature of the applicant and authorise the permit.

4. CONFINED SPACES
Never enter a designated confined space unless
properly authorised to do so.
ALWAYS
Only work in confined spaces if you are trained, competent and
authorised to do so.
Confirm with the site supervisor that it is safe to start work.
Follow the requirements of the confined space permit.
Have a trained standby person to control access to a confined space.
Have a means of communication with person(s) in the confined
space.
Buddy system must be applied.
NEVER
Never enter a confined space until the supervisor has confirmed
that it is safe to do so.
The stand-by person must never leave their post when someone is
in the confined space.
FOR SUPERVISORS (or people responsible for the work)
Verify that the confined space controls are understood by those on
the job.
Prevent unauthorised access to the confined space.
Verify that a qualified/trained stand-by person is always present
when people are in a confined space.
Verify that gas testing is carried out as per the confined space
permit.
Verify all permits are in place and it is safe to start work.
Stop the job if you believe it is not safe.

5. PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT
Never deliberately cause harm to the environment
or breach any conditions under the Environmental
Management Plan or associated permit.
ALWAYS
Ensure all hazardous materials and hydrocarbons are disposed of
via the correct waste management process.
Dispose of all recyclable materials in a responsible manner.
Always consider ways to Reduce, Re-use and Recycle.
Preserve the environment with the reduction of plastics and
other non-environmentally friendly products.
NEVER
Never clear or disturb any land without the correct approvals.
Never waste water.
Never leave your work area without the clean-up and disposal of
all waste.
FOR SUPERVISORS (or people responsible for the work)
Comply with all applicable environmental laws, regulations and
requirements.
Ensure all staff are familiar and coherent with the environmental
management plan.
Report all environmental incidents immediately.
Promote and maintain a positive environmental culture.

6. SAFETY DEVICES, BARRIERS & PPE
Never remove or tamper with any safety devices or
barriers without the proper permit, isolation or
authorisation.
ALWAYS
Inspect equipment machinery and tools to ensure the required
safety devices or barriers are in place prior to operating.
Replace all safety devices or barriers once work is complete and
prior to de-isolation of equipment.
Wear the required PPE.
NEVER
Never bypass a safety switch or alarm.
Never attempt to override or defeat safety features.
Never remove a physical equipment guard without the correct
isolation.
Never operate equipment without the appropriate safety device
or barriers.
Never abuse or modify PPE.
Never use substandard or inappropriate PPE.
FOR SUPERVISORS (or people responsible for the work)
Ensure all original guards and shields are securely fixed in place
during operation.
Do not operate equipment that is damaged or that has
missing/defective guards or shields.
Ensure that the required PPE is available and worn correctly.

7. ISOLATION & LOCKOUT
Never maintain any equipment before first rendering it
safe by isolation. Never remove, modify or bypass a
Safety Tag or Lock unless licensed, trained or properly
authorised to do so.
ALWAYS
Always LOTOTO ( Lock Out, Tag Out, Try Out). Isolate, lock out and
test for zero energy prior to work.
Understand the isolations that protect you and the workgroup from
uncontrolled release of energy.
Only isolate equipment if you are trained and authorised to do so.
Inspect all isolation points to verify that all locks and tags are
correctly in place.
Confirm with the supervisor that isolations are in place and it is safe
to start work.
NEVER
Never commence maintenance work if you have concerns about the
isolations performed on the equipment.
Never remove a lock or tag that was put on by someone else without
first verifying that person’s whereabouts and then gaining correct
approval to remove on their behalf.
FOR SUPERVISORS (or people responsible for the work)
Ensure that only trained, competent and authorised persons are
performing isolations.
Verify isolations and permits are in place and that no stored energy
or other dangers remain.
Stop work if you believe the isolations are not safe.
Instruct a person to return to work to remove a Personal Lock or
Danger Tag if they have forgotten to do so before leaving site.

8. WORKING AT HEIGHTS
Never work at heights greater than 1.8 meters unless
either the work area is fully guarded to prevent falls
or appropriate personal fall protection is worn.
ALWAYS
Only work at heights if you are trained, competent and
authorised to do so.
Set up an exclusion zone and signage under and around the
working area.
Conduct a pre-start inspection of all fall protection equipment
and ensure that it has been maintained in accordance with the
manufacturer’s specifications.
Wear fall protection if working outside of a guarded edge.
Secure equipment and materials when working at height.
NEVER
Never use fall protection equipment if it is damaged or has not
been inspected/ maintained.
FOR SUPERVISORS (or people responsible for the work)
Ensure that only trained, competent and fit persons work at
heights.
Verify that the working at height controls are understood by
those on the job.
Verify that a working at heights permit is in place and it is safe to
start work.
Stop work if you believe it is not safe.

9. HARASSMENT, DISCRIMINATION & BULLYING
Never subject any person to any form of Harassment,
Discrimination or Bullying.
ALWAYS
Respect people’s opinions.
Respect people’s personal space.
Respect people’s privacy, race, religion, gender, sexual
orientation and disabilities.
NEVER
Never demean others or make suggestive comments.
Never touch people inappropriately.
Never use insults or taunts of a sexual nature.
Never display sexually explicit pictures, posters, screensavers,
emails, tweets, social networking posts, SMS/texts.
Never say threatening or insulting comments, whether oral or
written, including those made through all types of electronic
media.
FOR SUPERVISORS (or people responsible for the work)
Ensure your teams have access to and are familiar with the EDV
“Harassment Prevention Policy”.
Monitor the work environment and take all necessary action to
prevent and stop harassing behavior.
Always be available to employees who may wish to raise
concerns in confidence, deal with such concerns in an impartial
and sensitive manner.
Set positive examples.

10. CHEMICAL & HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES
Never handle chemical or hazardous substances unless
specifically trained or authorised to do so.
ALWAYS
Always be familiar with the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) of the
chemical product before handling.
Store the chemical substances as per the compatibility table.
NEVER
Never store chemical products in an un-labelled container.
Never use chemical substances beyond the expiration date.
Never dispose of any substances hazardous to the environment.
FOR SUPERVISORS (or people responsible for the work)
Always obtain, read, understand and follow the instructions on
the Safety Data Sheet for the hazardous substances that your
team will be handling.
Provide adequate storage for all hazardous substances.
Ensure the correct PPE is available for people handling hazardous
substances.
