HOW TO DEVELOP A STORY

“Social problem”

3 minutes individual docu project

Documentary

A documentary is a film or television program that informs or educates its

viewers about a particular topic or issue. Documentaries can be
entertaining, informative, and inspiring. They offer a unique and powerful
form of storytelling that can capture the viewer’s attention and provoke
thought and discussion. Documentaries can explore any subject matter,
from historical events to contemporary issues to the human experience.
Storyline

Storylines are much like plotlines, except

they deal more with the character’s
feelings and motivations as opposed to
the actions of the characters. If you are
writing a character-driven story instead of
an action-driven story, this is the way to go
to help you sort out all the details.
Ideation

The process where you generate ideas and solutions through sessions such
as Sketching, Prototyping, Brainstorming, Brainwriting, Worst Possible Idea,
and a wealth of other ideation techniques. Ideation is also the third stage in
the Design Thinking process. Mentally it represents a process of ‘going wide’
in terms of concepts and outcomes. Ideation provides both the fuel and also
the source material for building prototypes and getting innovative solutions
into the hands of your users.
Ideation will help to

• Ask the right questions and innovate with a strong focus on your users,
their needs, and your insights about them.
• Step beyond the obvious solutions and therefore increase the innovation
potential of your solution.
• Bring together perspectives and strengths of your team members.
• Uncover unexpected areas of innovation.
• Create volume and variety in your innovation options.
• Get obvious solutions out of your heads, and drive your team beyond them.
Develop a story
• Study effective examples of plot development
•Reading is a great way to improve at any stage of the story development process because
it inspiring of how to get each element of craft right.

• Use a plotting process that will shape your story

•Great plots begin with curiosity and good ideas
• Make characters develop in intriguing ways
• At the start of writing a novel, identify each primary character’s main goals.
• Make each of the ‘5 W’s’ change
• a ‘story’ is made up of the ‘5 w’s’ – ‘who’, ‘what’, ‘why’, ‘where’ and ‘when’
• Ask yourself important questions about story development
• Once you have answers the story will growth.
• Get helpful feedback on your story arc
• Get peer feedback from other writer’s
Mood Board

An arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc. intended to evoke

or project a particular style or concept.
YOU HAVE TO PRESENT A CONFLICT AND SOLVE
THE CONFLICT IN THE STORY.
- Introduce your characters,
- Present a problem that they have,
- work towards solving the problem
- Create a climax to the video in which the
- problem is addressed and an ending in
which everything is resolved.
Storyboard
Storyboards are graphic organizers such as a series of illustrations or images
displayed in
sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing

Advantage of using storyboards is that it allows the user to experiment with

changes in the
storyline to evoke stronger reaction or interest. Flashbacks, for instance, are often
the result of sorting storyboards out of chronological order to help build suspense
and interest.

The process of visual thinking and planning allows a group of people to brainstorm
together, placing their ideas on storyboards and then arranging the storyboards on
the wall. This fosters more ideas and generates consensus inside the group.
