Unveiling the National Policy on Education

• National Education Policy (NEP) is a set of laws and rules

that governs how the education system of a country
operates.
• From academic excellence to conflict resolution, education
policies set the bar for success in every aspect of
Educational Institutes.
• They provide a sense of structure and consistency,
promoting fair treatment and fostering positive
relationships among everyone concerned.
• The National Policy on Education (NPE) is formulated by
the Government of India to promote and regulate education
in India.

'The purpose of education is to make good human beings with skill and expertise. Enlightened human
beings can be created by teachers.’
- Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

National Education Policy 2020: The Key to Empowering Young Minds
NEP 2020 is the third national Education Policy after 1968 and 1986

• Transforming India's Education Landscape:

The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) marks a
transformative shift in India’s education system, aiming to foster
holistic development, adaptability , and lifelong learning.

• Emphasis on Learning Outcomes:

NEP 2020 focuses on shifting from rote learning to developing
critical thinking, problem-solving, and creative skills, preparing
students for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

• Inclusivity and Equity:

The policy prioritizes inclusivity, ensuring quality education for all
students, regardless of their background, socioeconomic status, or
learning needs.
PILLARS OF NEP, 2020
In accordance with the NEP 2020

UGC has formulated a New Student-Centric

“Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate
Programmes (CCFUP)”
incorporating
 Flexible Choice-Based Credit System
 Multidisciplinary Approach
 Multiple Entry and Exit Options
This will facilitate students to pursue their career path by choosing the subject / field of
their interest.
Features of New Curriculum Framework

Flexibility to move Flexibility for learners

from one discipline of study to another to move from one institution to another to enable them
to have multi and/or interdisciplinary learning

Opportunity Flexibility to switch

for learners to choose the courses of their interest in to alternative modes of learning (offline, ODL, and Online
all disciplines learning, and hybrid modes of learning).

Facilitating multiple entry and exit options

with UG certificate/ UG diploma/ or degree depending upon
the number of credits secured;

Regulations for Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) and guidelines for Multiple Entry and Exit are already in place to
facilitate the implementation of the proposed “Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes”.
An Academic B an k of Credit (ABC) of each student, will be established
which would store the academic credits earned by a student from various
recognized HEIs, so that the degrees from an HEI can be awarded taking
into account the total credits earned.
Steps to Register on ABC

1. Login to DigiLocker. Student with DigiLocker Account can create

ABC ID.

2. Search for Education. Education category shows Academic Bank of

Credits service.

3. Create ABC ID. Select your University and click on Generate ABC ID.

4. Accumulate Credits. Students can check accumulated credits by

logging into abc.gov.in.
How it works?

“Credits awarded to a student for one program from an institution may be

transferred / redeemed by another institution upon students consent”.

Credit transfer is the key to successful study mobility.

UGC recommends the following procedure to compute the SGPA and CGPA

SGPA (Si) = ∑(Ci x Gi) / ∑Ci CGPA = ∑(Ci x Si) / ∑ Ci

Ci is the number of credits of the ith course and Si is the SGPA of the ith semester and

Gi is the grade point scored by the student in the ith course. Ci is the total number of credits in that semester.
