b) Choose only one and answer the following questions as stated in each
of the dilemmas.
c) Use the following ethical framework to answer the ethical dilemmas –
Deontology or Teleology ethical framework.
d) Then answer the following questions. Why do you choose the
framework to resolve the dilemma? Explain yourself well.
e) Use one yellow pad paper only. Don’t write on the back page. Just write
on one page of the paper – the front page of your paper. And follow our
previous format.
f) Be neat on your paper. As much as possible, don’t make many
erasures. Write in English only.
g) Submission is at the next meeting.
The Ethical Dilemmas:
1. During a military conflict, a commander must decide whether to launch
an airstrike on an enemy base, knowing there are civilians nearby with
some high officers and low-ranking soldiers. The strike would neutralize
a significant threat but might cause huge casualties.
Question: If you are the commander, should you decide to launch an
airstrike on an enemy knowing that many civilians and soldiers will be
affected and perhaps others may die? What ethical principle will guide
you to resolve this issue and why?
2. An employee discovers that their company is engaging in illegal
activities. Reporting this could lead to the company's closure and loss
of jobs for many employees, including the whistleblower.
Question: If you were the employee, would you report the illegal
activities, knowing that many of your co-workers who were
breadwinners in their families would lose their jobs? What ethical
principle will guide you to resolve this issue and why?
