GROUP PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS

PROJECT (20%)
Project Title:
Contract Management Practices in a Construction Project
Objective:
To encourage students to discover the construction contract procedures that are being
practised in the selected ongoing construction project. Through this exposure, it is expected
that students will be able to understand the application of the type of construction contract
and measures related to contract procedures and appreciate the importance of contract
procedures in construction contracts (C2) before providing any related recommendation (C3).
1.0 Instructions
1.1 Work in a group of a maximum of 5 students with a good mix of gender, race and academic
background.
1.2 Choose a building construction project that the progress is still ongoing.
1.3 Acquire the following for the selected building construction project:
(i) Key project information/ documents:
a. name and location of project,
b. original project start and completion dates,
c. total and breakdown of project cost,
d. key stakeholders (client, consultant and main contractors),
e. scope of works,
f. profile of the main contractor (including contractor’s grade of CIDB registration
project organisation chart) etc.
(ii) Contract information/ documents:
a. type of tender for appointing contractor,
b. standard contract form used,
c. type of standard specification for building works used,
d. list of bills in the Bill of Quantities (BQ)
e. date of site possession
f. performance bond: amount, type of certificate, duration,
g. amount of Liquidated Ascertained Damages (LAD),
h. duration of defect liability period (DLP),
i. type of insurances,
j. amount of advanced payment,
k. scope of work under prime cost & provisional sum, etc.
(iii) Relevant photos:
a. Project signboard
b. The current progress of the work on site
2.3 Provide only reliable references from PTTA.
2.3 Provide only reliable sources from the internet.
2.4 If your group intended to do an interview with any relevant construction
contractors/consultants, please fill in the Application for Letter of Permission to Obtain
Information from a Company

2.5 It is compulsory for each group to organise a site visit to the construction project you selected.
Provide evidence of the site visit.
2.6 It is compulsory for the group to provide evidence (photos and minutes of meeting) of the
weekly progress meeting of your project.
2.7 Important dates for execution of this project:

7 5 – 11 May 2024 Briefing of group project instructions (by lecturer).
Group project formation.
Delegation of tasks among group members.
8 - 12 12 May – 12 June Secure a suitable construction project for site visit.
2024 Conduct site visit.
Discuss and prepare project report.
Prepare evidences of site visit, weekly group discussion,
etc.
13 -14 16 – 27 June 2024 Physical group project presentation.
3.0 Project Report Format and Content
3.1 The case study project report shall be in A4 size (min. 40 pages and max. 50 pages)
3.2 The project report shall be written in English using MS Word format.
3.3 The font used shall be Times New Roman size 11 and using 1.5 spacing.
3.4 The left and right margin shall be 2.5cm, while the top and bottom margin must be 3cm.
3.5 Provide table of contents, and each page of the report shall be numbered.
3.6 Provide group members’ photo, full name and matric number.
3.6 Refer to minimum 5 books of reference from UTHM library (PTTA) and other online articles from
reliable resources to support your explanation and discussion. References/Sources: List all
references in this report with proper citation format (using APA style). Make sure all the
citations which are used in the report are well-written and can be found in then list of
references.
3.7 Provide appendices (if necessary0.
5.0 Project Assessment Criteria (20%)
• COGNITIVE: Report – 5%
• PSYCHOMOTOR: Report– 7.5%
• AFFECTIVE: Presentation and report – 7.5%
6.0 Project Presentation
A physical presentation will be held in Week 13 and 14 (16 – 28 June 2024).
7.0 Project Report Submission
Please submit the complete project report (in softcopy) no later than 13 June 2023, Thursday, via your
section Author UTHM platform.
