TMPOT'S

TIPS FOR DAILY STUDYING

SELECT YOUR TOPIC
Once you have selected your topic(s) to study, identify the resources you will use. Utilizing your textbook will give
you the best understanding. Utilize other resources to refresh what you've learned. Listen to recordings and watch
youtube. Record yourself talking about each topic to challenge your recall.

BE REALISTIC
Identify how many hours you can realistically study a day, and stick with it. 4-6 hours a day is adequate if you are
conceptualizing the content and not distracted. Break up studying. 3 hours in the morning, 3 hours in the
afternoon. Take one day off from studying weekly.

TAKE A BREAK
When you start to fatigue, get up and move, take a nap, eat lunch, or take a social break. I find that peppermints
every hour wake up your senses. Crunchy snacks help as well. Avoid trying to study when you are tired, there
will be limited recall.

TEST YOURSELF OFTEN

At the end of every week, take a practice test on the topics covered during the week. After studying a topic,
record yourself in your phone talking about the topic and interventions learned. It can help with recall and
can be listened to later.

FOLLOW A SCHEDULE
Use a schedule to keep yourself accountable. If you skip a day during the week, make it up on the weekend. If a
topic is not sticking, skip to a different topic and come back to the original topic later. Or just take a long break
and resume that evening.

EVERY LITTLE DETAIL. . .NO!

It is nearly impossible to know everything that will be on the exam. I suggest knowing a little bit about every
topic on the checklist. Try to understand concepts and interventions. Pay special attention to client factors and
interventions for every topic.
