4.1.7 Supported virtualization software
OpenText products are supported for use with certain combinations and releases of server operating
systems, database systems, application servers, web servers, directory services, SSO, etc. as listed
in respective release notes. The supported combination of 3rd-party software may be installed on
physical or virtual hosts. Customers that choose to use a virtual environment are encouraged to select
a virtualization platform intended for production systems and known to be fully supported by the 3rd-
party software vendors. Virtualization can be used on-premise as well as in cloud environments.
Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) are supported public cloud
platforms. Product release notes might contain additional information such as the support of cloud
platform specific services or guidelines on how to use our software on respective cloud platform.
Note that OpenText products are resource intensive solutions and will require at least the same
amount of resources in a virtual environment as it would in a physical environment. Therefore,
additional resource scaling may be required to maintain the same level of performance in a virtual
environment as observed in physical environments. Static or committed resources within a virtual
environment are typically needed for performance sensitive scenarios. If a large volume of data is
being transferred, e.g., very large file upload, the customer should make sure network bandwidth and
latency SLAs are in consideration prior to production level deployments. Additionally, use of specific
cloud storage technology should be cross-referenced with individual product release notes.
As OpenText may not be fully aware of all aspect of public cloud administration needs, customers are
expected to provide specific public cloud expertise to navigate such administration and configuration
responsibilities. If an issue is encountered relating to the normal operation of an OpenText product
whilst running within a virtualized environment, OpenText Customer Support is only obligated to
attempt to reproduce the issue on the same base operating system. If the issue cannot be reproduced
on the same base operating system, OpenText Customer Support will request that the issue be
referred to the vendor of the virtualization software for further investigation.
For questions about installation, sizing, storage, backup, monitoring, integration into the on-premises
network, contact OpenText Professional Services.

behavior. Any influence that results in a delay of the network
communication must be avoided on an Archive Center node while it is
actively used in a cluster.
For more information about active-active cluster related topics, see the Cluster Installation Guide. The
marker Cluster topic is used in the Administration Guide to indicate deviations of an active-active
cluster installation.

4.11 Microsoft SQL Server only: write jobs
Writing a document or component into the disk buffer creates an entry in the table ds_job. Each entry
has a unique sequence, called job number (jobno). The maximum job number is 2 31-1. When the
maximum is reached, archiving is no longer possible.
The current configuration of the Microsoft SQL Server does not allow to recycle job numbers.
To check your current job number in use, run the following SQL statement:
SELECT ROUND(CAST(((2147483647 - max(jobno)) * 100.0 / 2147483647)
AS FLOAT), 4) AS PercentageFree, (2147483647 - max(jobno)) as
IdsFree from ds_job;
If PercentageFree is less than 10 percent, contact OpenText Customer Support, and they will
assist you to reorganize the job numbers.
4.12 Recommendations and restrictions
4.12.1 General hints
4.12.1.1 OpenText Archive Center host name
See Knowledge Base article “Renaming an Archive Server host” at
https://knowledge.opentext.com/go/KB5982903.
OpenText Archive Center 20.2 Release Notes 19
4.12.1.2 Time settings
All computers (servers and clients) must use a central time server. Times returned by OpenText
Archive Center are in UTC (coordinated universal time).
4.12.1.3 IPv6 support
IPv6 addresses in place of host names are not supported. It must be ensured that host names are
resolved to IPv6 addresses.
4.12.1.4 Component name
The component name is treated as binary data. The length is limited to 255 characters (170
characters for Oracle or SAP Hana DB). Unicode characters are supported.
Some characters are not permitted as part of component names for documents in OpenText Archive
Center. For more information, see the Knowledge Base entry “Forbidden characters for filenames” at
https://knowledge.opentext.com/go/62988621. Trailing blanks are not allowed for component names.
4.12.1.5 Volume migration
• Remote Volume Migration is no longer supported.
• Volume migration is not supported with SAP HANA DB and PostgreSQL.
4.12.1.6 Retention
Event-based retention is not supported for:
• ArchiveLink scenarios
• ECMPush
• AFP files
The maximum supported retention is 9999-12-31.
4.12.1.7 OpenText Archive Center configuration parameters
Adding new configuration variables in the Administration Client under OpenText Archive Center >
Configuration is not supported.
4.12.1.8 ArchiSig
The dsReHashTree tool is not supported.
OpenText Archive Center 20.2 Release Notes 20
4.12.1.9 Command line tools
Command line tools require loading the Archive Server environment first.
Under UNIX/Linux, run <OT install AS>/bin/profile.
Under Windows, open a command line window, and then run <OT install
AS>\bin\profile.bat.
4.12.1.10 CMIS datetime properties
You can specify datetime properties with custom date formats in the CMIS pipeline.
Refer to the API reference installed at
“<CMIS Pipeline Install directory>\support\dtaccmis-schema.jar",
For example: “C:\Program Files\OpenText\Document Pipeline CMIS
16.2.0\support\dtaccmis-schema.jar”
Note: Unix-like timestamps as datetime format are no longer supported.
4.12.2 Use of 3rd-party monitoring products
This paragraph addresses support provided by OpenText for its OpenText Archive Center software
running with 3rd-party monitoring products.
Monitoring tools are expected to be transparent for the OpenText Archive Center software. For
customers who have a support agreement, OpenText will use reasonable efforts to investigate
potential issues with OpenText software running with 3rd party monitoring tools. As part of that
investigation, OpenText may require that the issue be reproduced independently from the monitoring
products. Where issues are confirmed to be unrelated to the monitoring software, OpenText will
support its software in a manner that is consistent with support provided when that software is not
running in such an environment.
4.12.3 Antivirus software
To archive virus-free documents, you must protect the documents from viruses before archiving.
OpenText Archive Center does not perform any checks for viruses. To ensure error-free work of
OpenText Archive Center, locations where documents are stored temporarily – like disk buffer
partitions, cache partitions, and Document Pipeline directories – must not be scanned by any antivirus
software while OpenText Archive Center is using them.
4.12.4 Multi-tenancy
Multi-tenant deployment on premises is not supported.
4.12.5 Storage quotas
Quotas imposed by the operating system on storage platforms are not supported.
OpenText Archive Center 20.2 Release Notes 21
This does not apply to quotas imposed by the storage system itself. Storage systems with quotas
must behave like a normal disk partition.
4.12.6 ISO image size
Recommended size for ISO images is 4 GB. Maximum supported size for ISO images is 10 GB.
4.12.7 Maximum number of volumes
Maximum number of volumes supported by STORM: 65’000.
Maximum number of volumes per single file device type (VI): 256
4.12.8 DocID with ‘AFP’ in the ID string
DocId with ‘AFP’ in the ID string is not allowed outside of the AFP scenario. The issue is detailed in
AS-20615 in Known issues section.
4.12.9 Migration via Document Import (dstools – volck) can lead to data loss
In the past, Archive Center migrations to new versions or new environments have been performed via
document import (dstools- volck) from storage systems. Migration via Document Import is no longer
supported as this method can lead to data loss. For more information, see the
https://support.opentext.com/kb?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0811105.

6 OpenText Archive Center hardware recommendation
Minimal hardware requirements for installations of OpenText Archive Center in production
environments using a local database:
OpenText Archive Center host 64-bit hardware.
Memory Minimum 8 GB; recommended 16 GB
CPUs At least 4 cores
Important for Single Instance Archiving, compression, encryption,
creation of ISO images: Provide more CPU power/memory.
Min. hard disk requirement 1 TB
Several multiple partitions
All disks must be mirrored, for example, Raid1, Raid5
Typically, AC performance depends on disk I/O. Hence, a fast
disk I/O system is mandatory for high volume archiving.
Network Minimum 1 GB Ethernet
If 100 kB documents must be ingested within 10 hours onto a NAS/CAS storage system, the
environment recommended above can be able to ingest 1 million documents per day (10 hours). Note
that the numbers can vary depending on document types, compression rates, encryption or other
parameters.

when doing a "Search all versions" but not when doing a "Search only recent
versions".
Workaround: After deleting the latest version of a document, editing the
properties of the document in CMIS without doing any modifications (only
triggering a re-extract of the document of the indexer) the document is query-
able as "Latest Version" again.
Note: Deleting a specific version or the latest version is only possible using a
dedicated client (CMIS Workbench or any other custom written client,
accessing the CMIS Api).
