Sikh Medallion, Silver (999 %), 50.00g, 17.20mm, 300th Anniversary of Khalsa,
1699 -1999, Commemorative Medallion Designed by Anandpur Sahib
Foundation, issued by the Punjab Small Industries & Export Corporation Ltd in
association with the Government of Punjab, Manufactured in India by MMTC
with specially imported silver from Switzerland 50.110g, 999 fine, Released on
8 April 1999 by honourable prime minister Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In the
second half of the 17th century a group of Kashmiri Hindus fleeing religious
persecution at the hands of Aurangzeb sought the help of the ninth Sikh Guru,
Guru Tegh Bahadur. On their behalf, he protested against their oppression, but
1008 he and a number of his colleagues were arrested by the Mughal
administration. At Delhi, he was ordered to perform a miracle or to convert to
Islam but when he declined to do either his colleagues were tortured and
8000.00 killed, and he was publicly executed. It was in the wake of these events that his
son Guru Gobind Singh began the Khalsa tradition. With broad and profound
religious significance to Sikhs, one element of the Khalsa is that the initiated
are warriors with a duty to protect the innocent from religious persecution.

George VI, Silver Gilt Badge, 7.51g, For Royal Service, The King's Badge is a
large 'silver' lapel badge authorised by the United Kingdom Ministry of
Pensions in the early part of the Second World War and initially issued to
servicemen who, as a result of their injuries, had been discharged from active
service. It was to be worn only on civilian clothing and by the end of 1941 over
8,000 had been awarded. Its basic purpose was to show that the wearer was a
veteran. As well as members of the armed services, merchant navy and fishing
fleets qualifying, by late 1944, it was also awarded to the coastguards, police,
1028 members of the Civil Defence Services, and the Home Guard. Like the better
known Silver War Badge of World War I, the King's Badge included the initials
GRI for Georgius Rex Imperator, in this case referring to King-Emperor George
2500.00 VI. The earlier badge was in the name of his father, George V. The wording
around the initials was also changed from For King and Empire Services
Rendered to For Loyal Service. While it did come with a certificate, the King's
Badge was not serially numbered. Very Fine, Scarce.
