What is Data Transmission?
• Data transmission involves transferring data
between devices over a short or long distance.
• Key factors to consider:
1. Direction of transmission.
• 2. Method of transmission.
• 3. Data synchronization.
• Governed by communication protocols.
Activity 2.2 - Data Transmission

Understanding Serial, Parallel,

Simplex, Half-Duplex, and Full-Duplex
Transmission
1. Explain the following types of data
transmission:
• i) Serial, Half-Duplex Data Transmission:
• Data sent one bit at a time in both directions, but
only one direction at a time.
ii) Parallel, Full-Duplex Data Transmission:
• Multiple bits are sent simultaneously in both
directions at the same time.
iii) Serial, Simplex Data Transmission:
• Data sent one bit at a time in one direction only.
2. Identify the types of data
transmission:
i) Data is sent one bit at a time in one direction only.
• Serial, Simplex Transmission.
ii) Data is being sent 8 bits at a time in one direction only.
• Parallel, Simplex Transmission.
iii) Data is being sent 8 bits at a time in both directions
simultaneously.
• Parallel, Full-Duplex Transmission.
iv) Data is sent one bit at a time in both directions
simultaneously.
• Serial, Full-Duplex Transmission.
v) Data is sent 16 bits at a time in one direction only.
• Parallel, Simplex Transmission.
