Activity Answer Sheet
M.03.A.02.Y – Replacing a Hard Drive
Instructions
On the following pages, you’ll find a series of headings predefined for you. As you work through the Hands-On
Activity place screenshots, photographs, and answers beneath the correct heading on the answer sheet.
Do not place answers on the same line as the heading. Failure to follow instructions may result in the in-
structor asking you to reformat your answer sheet. If this happens, your submission will be subject to the
course late policy.
If necessary, resize screenshots and photographs to fit on a single page.
You do not need to put your name on this Answer Sheet: Canvas will associate your Answer Sheet submission
with you, so that your instructor knows what you submitted.
If any headings are missing from this answer sheet, please insert the missing item. Then, inform your in-
structor of the error.

NOTE
All answers must have at least one citation unless stated otherwise.
You may not cite yourself, your instructor, or any classmates.
You may not cite a search engine as a source (e.g., Google, Yahoo, etc.)
You may not cite sources such as ChatGPT or other AI tools.
All responses must be in your own words to demonstrate your understanding of the question/topic.
Answer should be written in complete sentences.
Copy/paste responses will receive no credit.
If you are citing the workbook for this activity, then a citation has been provided for your use in the As-
sessment and Reflection section of the workbook.
If you are citing a source other than the workbook for this activity, several citation-building and genera-
tion tools exist on the Internet. Here is one: Free APA Citation Generator.
If you require additional assistance crafting citations in APA format, please visit the nearest Writing
Center.
CAUTION
Using generative AI tools, including but not limited to ChatGPT and Google Bard, outside the con-
straints outlined in the course syllabus is considered academic dishonesty and will result in a failing
grade for this task. Repeated use of such tools may lead to additional disciplinary actions.

may come from any source.
The essay below compares mechanical hard drives, SSDs, and NVMe storage.
HDD, or traditional spinning hard disk drives, is an electro-mechanical data storage device that has been in use
for over 50 years. It uses magnetic storage to store and retrieve digital information on one or more rapidly rotat-
ing disks coated with magnetic material. These hard disk drives rely on spinning disks, or platters, to read and
write data. However, due to their mechanical nature, they are slower and cheaper compared to SSDs.
SSD, which stands for Solid State Drive, is named so because it has no moving parts, unlike traditional hard
drives. This absence of moving and spinning parts means that SSDs experience less wear and tear, resulting in
significantly better performance. SSDs are approximately 5 times faster than normal HDDs. While SSDs are
more expensive, costing around 1.5 times more than HDDs, their performance benefits make them a popular
choice for many users.
NVMe, or Non-Volatile Memory Express, is a new protocol designed for accessing high-speed storage media.
It offers several advantages compared to legacy protocols and is defined to efficiently support the needs of en-
terprise and client systems that utilize PCI Express solid-state drives. NVMe is particularly useful for larger file
transfers due to its high-speed capabilities.
In the below graph, we can see the storage performance of those drives.
NVMe, SATA SSD, and SATA HDD are different types of storage drives. NVMe offers the fastest perfor-
mance, followed by SATA SSD, and then SATA HDD.
