One afternoon in the city of Mandaluyong, there's a young woman who got arrested by the PNP
anti-cybercrime group after getting a complaint from her victims. The suspect was supposed to
cash out the money she gained by fooling her victim in the remittance center when the PNP
approached her and brought her to the police station.
[nagsasadula sila]
Voiceover: According to the victim, (name), she made a first transaction with the suspect when
she sold (sell o sold?) a cheap cellphone in an online marketplace.
[acting with a voice na ng actor]
Actor: Wow! I could get an iPhone 16 in only 10,000 pesos? I should buy this one immediately
or else, someone may got it first.
[nag-chat si sis ko sa buyer (ipapakita 'yong convo na nagpapasend si buyer ng pic kasama si
victim at ang i.d)]
Actor: Oh? I need to take a pic of my I.D with my face to prove that I am a legit buyer? That's
new, but, okay.
[Si actor ay kukuha ng i.d then picture with her face]
Actor: And, send. Now we wait for the order confirmation.
[after few days]
Actor: Why isn't she responding? [frustrated acting ihagis na ang cp sa bed] I should've seen
this. The offer is too good to be true. [nahiga na lang siya sa frustration]
[A month or so?]
[Ring]
[kakapasok niya lang sa kwarto niya na may twalya sa ulo]
Actor: Why is she calling? What's her problem now? [sinagot ang tawag]
Actor 2: Where are you?
Actor: I'm in my room right now. Why?
Actor 2: Look at my messages.
Actor: You called me, shouting, just for me to look at your message? Are you insane?
Actor 2: Can you stop speaking and just look at my messages damn. Your mouth can't shut up
Actor: whatever

kaibigan at pamilya niya nadadamay na]
Voiceover (reporter): Her friend sends a series of screenshots where her name is now a hot
topic on every marketplace online. (name) is filled with anger and confusion that she starts
panicking inside. Thankfully, her mother is with her in her room.
Mother (interview): I was shocked when I saw her panicking. So I immediately asked her and
she just gave me the phone and told me to call her friend to explain. I was angry of course,
that's why we went to the PNP right after her friend explained the situation.
Reporter (Voiceover): According to the Police, (name) was a victim of Identity theft
Police: This is their new modus in Identity theft. They would act as if they would sell something
cheap and then they would ask for a picture of you with your I.D and then make another account
with another sim and use your picture to scam other people.
Reporter (Voiceover): When the mother complained to the PNP, they started searching for the
suspect and finally found the identity of the suspect. She is (name), 20 years old and lives in
Larena, Siquijor. According to her, she did that because she got fired from her job and his family
does not have money to buy food.
Suspect (interview): I only did that because we don't have enough money to pay for our bills and
other necessities. I have mouths that need to be fed.
Reporter (voiceover): PNP gives warning to people on this type of scam.
Police: We should be careful of any transactions online. We should be critical to anyone that we
interact online and will give some of our important information. You should be Media Information
and Digital literate. Do not trust someone without analyzing if they could be trusted or not.
