UNITED NATIONS

COMMISSION ON THE
STATUS OF WOMEN

(UNCSW)

AGENDA
“Addressing the Imperative:
Empowering Women through
Education and Political
Participation for Inclusive
Socioeconomic Development.”
What is the United Nations
Commission on the Status of
Women?

One of the main UN bodies, the Economic and Social

Council (ECOSOC), houses the Commission on the
Status of Women (CSW or UNCSW), a functional
commission. CSW has been referred to as the UN body
that supports women's empowerment and gender
equality. Annually, delegates from member nations
convene at the UN headquarters in New York to
assess the state of gender equality, pinpoint
obstacles, establish international benchmarks, and
devise tangible strategies to foster gender equality
and the global advancement of women.
Detailed Agenda Overview

Women's recognition and representation have been a key

to the contemporary world. They play a great and vital
role in the improvement of the economy of a nation. This
can be further sensed when globally, the gender gap in
labour force participation has hovered at 30 percent since
1990, with men's participation at around 80 percent and
women's at 50 percent. Labor force participation rates for
women aged 25-54 in 2022 were 61.4 percent compared
to 90.6 percent for men.
This proves how nations have started giving importance to
women comparatively over the years.
Education of women would be a great boost for this.
They would be self-reliable and more confident. Literate
women could work, hence increasing the economy of the
county.
