DISC BRAKE CALIPER R&R
FRONT
1. Remove wheel and tire.
2. Remove bolt (1), Fig. 1.
3. Remove disc pad (1), Fig. 1.
4. Remove wear indicator (3), Fig. 1.
5. Remove shim (4), Fig. 1.
6. Remove guide plate (5), Fig. 1.
7. Remove bolt as illustrated and lift up caliper, Fig. 2.
8. Reverse procedure to install note following:
a. After installation, depress brake pedal a few times, rotate wheel by hand, and verify
that brake does not drag.
b. Clean exposed area of piston. Warning: Before installing caliper, verify that dust
seal does not protrude from piston surface. Otherwise, dust seal may be
damaged and braking performance could worsen. Do not use a sharp-tipped tool
when inserting dust seal. Otherwise, dust seal may be damaged.
c. Push piston in using commercially available disc brake expand tool, Fig. 3.
d. Verify that dust seal installation position is lower than piston surface as illustrated,
Fig. 4.
e. If dust seal protrudes from piston surface, install SST as illustrated and press dust
seal back to correct position, Fig. 5.
f. Install disc pads to mounting support.
g. Return caliper to original position and install bolt.
h. Torque front brake pad bolt (1) to 62-68 ft. lbs., Fig. 1.
REAR
Warning: Brake fluid will damage painted surfaces. Be careful not to spill any on painted
surfaces. In addition, if there is any brake fluid on wiring harness, wire insulation may
corrode causing a malfunction such as a short circuit. If brake fluid gets on a painted surface
or wiring harness, wash and flush it off completely with water immediately.
When in maintenance mode, clearance between disc pad and disc plate expands. When
maintenance mode is completed, perform electric parking brake automatic adjustment. With
electric parking brake automatic adjustment, electric parking brake motor gear unit operation
time is longer than normal.
1. Switch to maintenance mode.
2. Disconnect ground battery terminal.
3. Remove wheel and tire.
4. Disconnect electric parking brake motor gear unit connector.
5. Remove bolt(1), Fig. 6.
6. Remove disc pad (2), Fig. 6.
7. Remove wear indicator (3), Fig. 6.
8. Remove shim (4), Fig. 6.
9. Remove bolt as illustrated and lift up caliper, Fig. 7.
10. Reverse procedure to install, note following:
a. End maintenance mode.
b. After installation, pump brake pedal a few times and inspect following: Disc pad
projection is securely installed to piston groove. Brake drag, Fig. 8.
c. Clean exposed area of piston.
d. Push piston in using a commercially available disc brake expander tool. Warning: If
piston is pushed into caliper while rotating piston, caliper internal parts could
be damaged. Be careful not to rotate piston when pushing piston into caliper,
Fig. 9.
e. Install disc pads to mounting support.
f. Return caliper to original position and install bolt.
g. Torque rear brake pad bolt (1) to 17-22 ft. lbs., Fig. 8.
