JOINING STAREHE BOYS’ CENTRE
Starehe Boys’ Centre is a charitable institution for bright but poor boys, giving them a unique holistic
education. Our mission is to provide care and education for boys in need and inspire them to transform into
productive and exemplary members of society. Since its foundation in 1959, more than 14,000 thousand boys
have been raised al Starehe, becoming capable and caring members of society, enhancing, their chances in life
and ultimately the welfare of their families. Our alumni continue to make a positive contribution all over the
globe as competent professionals, conscientious public servants and innovative entrepreneurs.
‘To be admitted to Starehe, a child must fulfil the following three requirements:
1. The candidate must select Starehe as their 1“ Choice of National School at the time of choosing,
their preferred secondary schools. Slarehe is in Cluster 3 with the other older national schools, but
this does not mean that it has to be selected as the third choice - a common mistake. Only applicants
that make Starehe their 1* Choice of National School will be considered for admission.
2. The candidate must also complete and return our Yellow Form. The Yellow Form is available from
the Centre, but can also be downloaded from our website at hitps:/bil,lv/3AK2QpN, It Is of vital
Importance that the Yellow Form be truthfully and fully completed, with all the requisite
documents attached. Candidates may request the Yellow Form by calling us on 0777761213 ~7,
writing to infoostareheboyscentre.ac ke, or sending an SMS/WhatsApp message to 0727531001.
3, The candidate must perform very well in the KCPE examinations as entry into Starehe is very
competitive. Because we endeavour to admit children from every part of the country each year,
Starehe does not have a standard cut-off mark ~ but candidates seeking to join the Centre are
‘encouraged to aim for the highest possible score achievable.
Application Deadlines
For the Standard 8 Class that is sitting their KCPE examination in March/April 2022, the Yellow Form must
be submitted to the Centre by 31" December 2021. For the classes sitting their final primary school
‘examinations in November/December 2022, the Yellow Form must be submitted to the Centre by 31° July
2022. We recommend that the Yellow Form be hand-delivered to the Centre or sent by a courier service that
provides proof of delivery/receipt.
Fees at Starehe
At least 70% of places at Starehe are reserved for children from poor backgrounds, while 30% are granted
to fee-paying children, We seek sponsorships for the disadvantaged children — and are only able to keep
them in school due to the generosity of individuals and organisations of goodwill from across the world,
including our alumni (Old Starchians) who are our largest single funder. The fee paying boys are charged
fees according to the means of their families, subject to an economic minimum.
‘We ardently encourage candidates applying for a sponsored place at Starehe to also apply for support from
the various Foundations and Programmes that support poor children, including the Constituency
Development Fund and similar bursaries. Where they are granted such support, it will fund their
education at Starehe should they be admitted at the Centre. Admission to Starehe does not disqualify one
from receiving such support.
