BRENDA MONARREZ
4TH DISTRICT LFUCG COUNCIL MEMBER
BRENDA MONARREZ SPEAKS OUT AGAINST FALSE ALLEGATIONS
On August 8, 2024, I was publicly accused in a court filing by one of my fellow
City Council members of inappropriate behavior toward the other Council member with
whom I have frequently interacted for a number of years. I can assure the press, the
public, my constituents and any other interested party that the allegations are patently
false. I do not know exactly what is driving this sudden unexpected derogatory
accusation, but it does not escape attention that the allegation has been made within 90
days of our next City Council election in which I am on the ballot as the incumbent 4 th
District Council member for the City of Lexington. I have held that position since
winning the election in November, 2022, at which time I was elected as the first person
of Latin-American descent to ever serve on the Lexington-Fayette Urban County
Council.
I am very proud of the service I have performed as a Council Member and I very
much look forward to continuing my service to my constituents during my next term. I
remain confident the voting public will cast their votes based upon policies, past record
of service and other legitimate factors. I look forward to the opportunity to have all the
true facts come to light with respect to the baseless accusations which have been made
against me, and I look forward to the day this vile attempt to smear my personal and
political reputation is exposed for what it is.
Raised in Chicago in a working-class family, I have known since a very young
age the importance and value of working to achieve one’s goals and dreams, being
independent and being faithful to family and friends. My greatest life achievement thus
far is having four wonderful children. Now that my children are adults, my next goal is to
continue my dedicated service to my constituents in the 4th District which also ultimately
serves to benefit all citizens of Lexington, my home for more than 32 years.
Finally, I would like to clarify as to some misreporting by the local media. The
present court status regarding the allegations against me is that no court has yet made
any determination as to whether any inappropriate conduct occurred. The Court has
taken the usual steps of ensuring separation of the parties until an evidentiary hearing
can be held. The hearing is presently scheduled for October 16, 2024. In the
1
meantime, I proudly continue my efforts and duties to represent my constituents as
usual and will be attending official City Council meetings remotely for the time being
which thankfully protects me from potential further false allegations.
