The Discher family had a busy year with many changes. The Miller family, who are close relatives, moved to Arkansas where they have more land. The Discher children are growing up, with the oldest graduating and the youngest talking. They went on trips to North Carolina, Missouri, and Arkansas to visit family. Granddaddy bought 220 acres in Missouri, 50 of which will be for the Discher family to build on debt-free and pursue a more agricultural lifestyle. They are preparing to move from Florida to the new land in Missouri.

Discher Family The

December, 2008
Greetings from the Discher family! Wow!! It is Christmas time again! It has been a wonderful and busy year. Many changes have taken place in our lives this past year and there are more to come, but the Lords hand continues to be evident in our lives. The biggest change for us this year was the fact that the Millers (Mamas sisters family) moved in April to Arkansas, where they have much more LAND. After living for so many years right down the road from them and doing almost everything together, we definitely felt an empty space when they left Alturas, but we are so thrilled for them in their new life. Kitty is now 19, Sarah is 18, Gracie is 17, Peter is 15, Markie is 11, Rosie is 7, and Emma is 2 years old. Daddy turned 50 this year, to a jivin groovy 70s party! We children are all keeping up with our school work. Kitty graduated in June and Sarah is graduating next June. Emma Jane is talking and even helping around the house. Her job is to put away the silverware. She takes it very seriously!!! We are still playing our music. Our CD was published professionally! Amanda McAuley (our adopted cousin) has been playing bass for us since the Millers left. We Dischers have been working on playing and singing some Celtic/Folk music together, and have been having a lot of fun with that! In our last newsletter, we mentioned that Gracie's next dream was to get bagpipes. Well...she now has some parlor pipes and is slowly learning them. Our faithful dogs, Tiger and Friday are still with us, as well as the cats, Bubbles and Mr. Darcy. Sarahs rooster, King David, has been joined by about 25 hens at last. They should soon be giving us eggs!!! We went on quite a few trips this year! In January, we participated in the Brooksville Raid Civil War reenactment. Gracie joined Kitty and Sarah on the field as Ice Angels and Peter was able to re-enact in the battle, thoroughly enjoying it! Last year we Discher kids had won a trip to North Carolina to play for the National Conference of Agricultural Agents. The trip and performance went great, and we were also blessed to be able to spend time with Great Grandpa Harris side of the family in Charlotte as well. After leaving

North Carolina, we beelined it for 16 hours straight to Branson, MO, where we met up with the rest of the family and some friends to attend the Defending Your Faith Conference. Afterwards, we spent some time at the Miller's new home and then visited more relatives in Alabama. The trip was blessed, and enjoyable. It was wonderful to have most of the family together again! Daddy and Peter had the opportunity to attend the Hope Baptist Church Father-Son Retreat in Wake Forest, N.C. in September. Gracie and Sarah went along as Grandmamma and Granddaddys guests, along with Great-Grandma Harris. We had a wonderful time visiting with Great-Grandma Harris side of the family! In October, all of us except Daddy went with Grandmamma and Granddaddy to Arkansas to visit the Millers, and to look for land and... Granddaddy found the LAND!!! He bought 220 acres in southern Missouri, of which 50 acres will be ours! A few years ago God had placed a vision on Daddys heart to have land on which our family (and in the future we children) can build debt free. Another part of this vision is to have a more agricultural/self sufficient lifestyle and work together as a family in an agri-business. Granddaddy has given us permission to live in one of the homes on the property until we are able to build our own. Praise the Lord, that He has providentially opened doors and fulfilled a long-time dream! Praise the Lord that Granddaddy is a faithful Patriarch who has a multigenerational vision and that he is willing to put that vision into practice! Please be praying for us as we put our home on the market, and prepare to move to Missouri! Daddy has been making many improvements on the house, getting it ready for sale, and Uncle Hans incredible landscaping work while he was here made great progress towards that goal. We so enjoyed getting to know Uncle Hans better while he was here, and were very sad to see him go! Daddy and Peter have been working together in the home improvement business. Daddy continues to do some drafting work, on the side. Well, our short review of the past year has come to an end. We wish you a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! In Christ,
