3.2- Air pollution
4 HSE DEP. NCC/OHSAS18001/SP446
Description
Projects Departments
Environmental plan
HSE Dep.
Rev. No.: 3 Date: Jan, 2023 Issued for : Implementation
Air pollution means the introduction of any harmful substances into the air that causes a
temporary to permanent change in any of the physical characteristics of the air (color, smell).
Air pollution has massive negative effects on all forms of wildlife as well as on human health. It
could lead to form minor to serious lung injuries (from minor agitation to lung cancer). Prolonged
release of SOx and NOx has been proven (in acid rain outbreaks in Europe) to be linked directly
with acid rain, which is yet more potentially dangerous.
3.2.1 Air pollution control
If the following steps are preformed carefully, air pollution should be kept at a minimum:
1- Gate control should thoroughly inspect all vehicles and machinery going into the site and
determine whether exhaust fumes of such machinery and vehicles are within the permitted range
(the mean of carbon and carbon related particles should not exceed 10 µm/m3 (micron).
2- Any machinery or vehicles that pass this limit should not enter the site. If however, necessity
requires that they enter, temporary filters that decrease the exhaust fumes must be used.
3- Any form of activity which will result in massive evolution of fumes, smoke, or any vapor,
should not be continued until all personnel are wearing their personal protective equipment
(which must include face masks) and the workers must not come anywhere near the fumes,
smoke, or vapor, administrator control (work shift ) can be applied .
4- Out of common sense, it is obvious that one of the main actions taken to prevent air pollution is
to prevent the burning of any fuels, wastes, etc. in an open air environment. Should any activity
require the burning of fuel, wastes, etc., then this should only be done in a closed system with
filters installed to allow the evolution of the least amount of particles into the air possible (not
exceeding 5 µm/m3).
Even if all of the above measures are preformed carefully, air pollution may be
at low levels.
3.3- WATER POLLUTION

site.
3- The underground burial of wastes shall be far from any existing ground water.
4- Solid waste resulting from excavation, demolition and construction works shall be transported
by special trucks licensed for this purpose and fitted with special containers or with tight covers
to prevent spreading of dust, soil and waste substances into the air or their falling off on the road.

oils) are to be collected in drums and transported to designated area for recycling or disposed
according to material safety data sheets.

shall be color coded according to client standard.
2- The garbage will be collected daily and transported to an approved transfer station prior to final
disposal by land filling.
3.5.4-Sewage Disposal
1- Sewage will be collected through P.V.C. sewage lines which be connected to client sewage
treatment plant if available.
2- If the client sewer system is not available for use, the system will be drawn to a proper
underground suitable tank.
3- Cesspit emptier will be used whenever a septic tank is full and transferred outside the working
area to an approved location designated by the client or local authorities.
