11. Was there a conductor? If yes, how did the conductor communicate with the

performers? If no, how did the performers communicate with each other?

- This is a solo performance so there was not any conductor.

12. How did the audience respond to the performance?

The performance was well-observed and enjoyed by the audience.

13. How was the overall performance? (Describe in detail)

The performance was excellent, most of the performers prepared the

piece very well. Also, I was impressed by how the vocalists and saxophone work

very well with the new accompanist. Since we changed the accompanist very last

minute, not everyone get to rehearse with him as much but they still did an

excellent job.
14. Describe some improvements you would like to make if you were the director of

the performance.

The performance was amazing, everyone did marvelous job in my

opinion. The only improvements I think the students need is to not rush into the

piece too much because later on, they will tend to speed up and it will get out of

control easily. Also, every performer will make mistakes here and there, it is very

important to know where to pick ourselves back up after mistakes after all.

15. Write a summary of the composer and the piece performed in the concert. If there

are multiple composers and pieces, please select the one you favored the most.

(Research and Reference is required.) Please use the HCC Library online

database “Oxford Music Online.” DO NOT LEAVE THIS BLANK! It’s the

most important part of your report.

My favorite piece was I Could Have Danced All Night by Lerner/Lowe,

and this song appeared in the original film “My Fair Lady” film where the music

written by Frederick Loewe and lyric by A.J Lerner and release in 1956. The first

person to perform this song was Julie Andrews in the original film My Fair Lady.

There are multiple versions of recording by famous artists such as Ben E. King,

Frank Sinatra, Sylvia Syms, etc. and many actresses have also sung the song as a

stage version such as, Lauren Ambrose, Laura M. Kelly, Lisa O’Hare, etc. From

the film, we get the idea that despite the manipulations of a small-minded man,

their musical purpose is about a strong woman trying to retain her identity

despite a small-minded man attempting to control her. In the song, it was about

Eliza Doolittle expressing her excitement after an impromptu dance with her
professor Henry Higgins. However, in the film it was quite the opposite. Higgins

lets Eliza dance with Zoltan Karpathy and then later she feels ignored by Higgins

and acknowledges that he only finds her when he needs her, so she decided to

leave with Freddy, the one who actually loves her and make her feel like a lady.

In this song, Melissa did an amazing job in expressing Eliza’s excitement

after the dance, and I can clearly see her personality resonated through her

character as Eliza.
